There is a LOT of coal being shipped from Wyoming - also a lot of grain trains. But there is a lot of other stuff too, of a needful and legitimate nature. Of course we are learning there is perhaps some not so innocent stuff.
It represents the Tonnage of US Class 1 Railroad traffic. You are looking at the volumne of traffic in Wheat, soybeans, and agricultural products across the central and northern plains.
Cattle and oil probably. Roughly follows old drive routes for cattle.
Powder River Basin (PRB) coal. Largest deposit of low-sulfur coal in the world.
Low-sulfur coal was mandated by past EPA regulations for electric generation.
