PHIL! He shot Phil!
Linky no worky...............
“Why DIDN’T the groundhog cross the road?”
news?
Criminals are safe....
2 shots to kill a groundhog?
Something slightly humorous about the headline, “groundhog fatally shot.”
Its a groundhog. National news? Its a groundhog. People are stupid.
All right Patton.
Groundhog lives matter. Expect thousands of groundhogs to descend upon the scene.
“Cop claims it “wasn’t acting normally”
So the trigger happy super hero knows what normal ground hog behavior is? Probably gets off on shooting chipmunks in his back yard.
Nope, payback for 6 more weeks of winter....
Just making way for the chicken, who’s road it happened to be.
Obviously rabid... maybe early stages, but what doesn’t make sense is that the Humane society stated that they were NOT going to test the animal.
Probably because they know what they were going to find, and want to keep the issue alive to make the officer the bad guy.
Poor ‘hog.... He’ll never see his shadow again.
There’s also been a gunhogg acting strange lately.
Many of us in the Northern Plains who endured a rash of spring blizzards are cheering
Good shooting.
The other night a lady hit an alligator on I-95. The resulting accident killed her and her two children.
I had a pet groundhog, a boy with bigger balls than Donald Trump. They usually aren’t afraid of people if it’s not a regularly hunted area, no more than squirrels are in a park, and may even be friendly if it’s been given chips by passers by. Its biggest concern is probably dogs and other male groundhogs.
In the spring, they are famished from hibernating all winter and spend the first weeks out of the hole gorging on all the delicious greens sprouting up everywhere. They’ll go out of their way and take more risks, such as crossing exposed road, to get at favorites like dandelions or asters on the other side. This desire for the choicest things can distract them into grazing too far from their hole.
This one’s likely familiar with cars whipping by but probably not with them stopping, so that may have him a bit confused. It doesn’t see them as normal but knows they are not good for cover. There’s not a close tree for it to climb up either - and they can and will climb a tree if they have to.
Where is this groundhog’s hole most likely to be? This one’s hole is most likely up in the embankment there on the side of the road behind the cop, where drainage is best, rather than on the other side of the road, which is low and flat. So it most likely did the only thing it could when caught far from its home with no trees close... head home.
Looks like the officer showed up while the fellow was looking to get a fresh dandelion meal on the other side and got between the woodchuck and his hole. For a chuck there’s nothing worse than having your one safe spot blocked by an intruder. Chucks just won’t run away in a random direction like other animal will, they cannot run fast. They’ll dive into another hole if there is one, they’ll got to the nearest tree if there is one and climb, or they will try to charge around or through an obstacle to get home. Once a groundhog makes a decision they follow through come hell or high water.
So I seriously doubt it’s rabies. It’s spring, groundhogs have just emerged, not much time to get in a scuffle with a rabid animal, and also have time to incubate the disease; and if this one had caught it before hybernating he’d have died during hibernation. Instead he died because Barney Fife there doesn’t understand how chucks think.
