Schools are removing analogue clocks from examination halls because teenagers are unable to tell the time, a head teachers union has said.
Teachers are now installing digital devices after pupils sitting their GCSE and A-level exams complained that they were struggling to read the correct time on an analogue clock.
Malcolm Trobe, deputy general secretary at the Association of School and College Leaders (ASCL), said youngsters have become accustomed to using digital devices.
The current generation arent as good at reading the traditional clock face as older generations, he told The Telegraph.

Good points.
I just hope one day to come across a waiter, like Steve Martin in “The Absent-Minded Waiter.”

TEACH THEM!
I was taught to read a clock in about second grade and in fourth grade was taught penmanship (cursive writing). These were in addition to reading, arithmetic, civics, American history and basic science. Perhaps if schools stuck to teaching the basics and quit wasting class time on self esteem BS, sexual orientation issues, climate change, gun control and Trump hate kids today might know how to read, actually write their name and tell time on a real clock
My school clocks all had Roman Numerals.
...
They can’t read analogue clocks, they can’t read cursive, but they can hear the sound of wet grass over a cellphone.
Does this mean that if a kid is instructed to do something clockwise, he flashes 12:00 repeatedly?
It only takes a matter of minutes to teach a child how to tell time. The fact that schools don’t want to take the time to teach it, and it is a shame the parents don’t, is telling.
When I was in school, we were taught to read a clock in the second or third grade, maybe sooner. We were also taught penmanship (cursive) by about the second or third grade. Now, schools are dropping penmanship, and high school kids can’t read clocks. Progress!
As a (unfortunately non-current) sailplane pilot, Ive always thought we should emulate the Europeans and require that pilots seeking airplane ratings first receive their glider rating. It really ingraines good judgment when every landing is a forced landing and go arounds are not an option. Sailplane pilots also learn good control coordination habits and learn how to manage their aircrafts energy, all invaluable skills in an engine out scenario.
don’t be too hard on them- their teeth hurt so bad that their vision is blurred
Give them a sun dial and make it part of the test end stupidity.
Teach them how to use the damn things instead of throwing them away.
Most planes I seem drawn to have a glide ratio identical or worse than a brick. I flew a Great Lakes bi-plane for a few months to get acrobatic training and real spin recovery training, but never again care to do so. My stomach does not care for such things.
Altitude and 10’000 foot runways are a man’s best friend.
When you are watching old TV chows, have him sit thru the credits & tell you what year the show was produced-—many are still in Roman numerals.
Public education can now add inability to tell time to inability to do math, and to understand science, know history, read and write. The DNC will have to find a way to affix pictures to their candidates on the ballots so the new 16-year-old voters will cast the proper vote.
They’re assuming that the kids can identify numbers.
