>>Its legal to fiddle around with a corpse?<<
I disagree that what they did was legal. The moment the guy died all his possessions legally passed to his estate. They were NOT “unowned” at that moment and the cops needed a search warrant FROM THE HEIRS before attempting to crack it. Since their heirs were NOT participants in the alleged crime at hand this was a violation of the 4A.
IMHO.
“A cop can be 30 feet BEHIND a fleeing car. But that still constitutes deadly force resistance.
So the laws allow the cops to open fire.”
I suspect the intent of such rules are to allow the cops to stop a threat to the population at large.
Like a guy on an on-ramp, about to bring a high-speed chase to the highway.
Or a maniac running down people in a moving van.
“Fingerprint ID on iphone doesnt work after it hasnt been used for a couple of days.”
After a couple of days it is rigged to require a password. Also a dead finder won’t work. Those are protections from exactly this kinda thing and other government intrusions.
Personally, I think it would be a bad idea to ever use a fingerprint.
Yes, I know. 24 was some fine fantasy, too.
“... According to Chaney, theres a 48- to 72-hour window to access a phone using the fingerprint sensor.”
That’s why it didn’t work.
A fingerprint doesn’t seem too awkward.
Once Tim Cook gets people using colon maps to open their phones though...
A dead finger can be made to work. It's just a matter of how badly you want it. :)
I believe it. I think it will get more reliable as the technology gets better.
A little vitreous humour?
Why would it not work? If you take into account all the methods employed by the designer to detect a valid finger print, it would seem to me they could be replicated.
And he was just getting his life back together, right?
A little vitreous humour?
I have a friend who is a tech rep for Bloomberg, and their keyboards unlock with their terminals. He said the largest amount of calls he gets, are probs w/ the fingerprint reader.
Hands too cold? Hands too hot? Lotion?
Any number of issues muck up their keyboards. The keyboards have been replaced several times.
In most instances cops claim they were in fear for their lives as the perp is fleeing. They claim the vehicle is a deadly weapon and that the perp is likely to run them over as they attempt to flee.
So. In a situation where you are at a traffic stop and the cop asks you to get out of the car and you instead put in in drive and attempt to leave?
You better hope the volley of bullets aimed at your head miss their mark.
What was the victims’s blood alcohol? Did his hair test positive for toxins? Did the autopsy show evidence of heart disease? Dementia? AIDS? What was the cause of death?
I thought it was downright virtuous.
“”There should be some dignity in death,” Nojeim said”
Well maybe so. Show him the same dignity he showed the cop trying to arrest him.
From another article:
“Largo police Officers Matthew Steiner and Prentice Ables pulled over a black Nissan sedan driven by Phillip at the gas station due to illegally tinted windows, officials said.
While talking to Phillip, police said the officers smelled the odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle.
As officers tried to detain him, police said Phillip jumped into the drivers seat of the Nissan and tried to drive away. Steiner found himself trapped halfway in the vehicle as Phillip put it in reverse and accelerated with the drivers side door open, police said. Ables was able to get out of the cars way.
While Steiner was being dragged by the car, police said he drew his firearm and fired “in self-defense,” police said. The officer then fell out of the car and found the open drivers side door “brushed” over him.
The Nissan, still going in reverse, hit another car, crashed into the gas stations bollards and then stopped between two gas pumps. Officers then started medical treatment for Phillip and called for paramedics, police said.
I'm not surprised. It sounds like they haven't quite worked the bugs out of it yet.
