I wouldn’t watch anything with lefty Kevin Costner in it.
Yes sir.
I came close to tearing my stomach muscles laughing.
It seems like sometimes it's best to look at who makes them more that what were the best.
Tom Selleck made some great ones, such as Crossfire Trail and Last Stand at Saber River. Horse Soldiers was a fantastic western. So was Ron Howard's version of The Alamo. I s'pect we could list these all night.
Right. You can add “The Quick and the Dead” (Sam Elliott) and “The Sacketts” (Tom Selleck) to that list.
Excellent!
That was nice. Guess I’ll never get used to
seeing electric guitars playing with symphonies.
“Fill your hand, you son of a bitch!”
If mountain man movies qualify as westerns, I would add The Mountain Men starring Charlton Heston and Brian Keith. Again, I don't know if it qualifies or not but I really enjoyed Quigley Down Under.
“Mighty tough talk for a one-eyed fat man”
“Well fill your hands you son-of-a-bitch!”
Zane Grey’s Riders of the Purple Sage is the only book I ever read that routinely uses “ejaculated” for “said.”
Smile when you say that, Pilgrim.
“Open Range”
“Lonesome Dove”
etc..
plus numerous others containing Robert Duval and Kevin Costner........I totally loved those movies and watch them over and over again whenever they appear of Dishnetwork
Thats 2 of us...I’m below.
I agree that High Noon was not leftist and Grace Kelly was pretty enough to make it watchable by herself.
On the other hand, Louis L”Amour hated it. He said the idea of the whole town being scared and rescued by the lone hero was bunk. He said most of them would have been veterans of the Civil War and were not afraid of anything.
It is a common theme in Westerns, both movies and TV shows tho.
For me, The Magnificent Seven was the best.
Was surprised that nobody mentioned Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid by this point. I know they were both liberals. The other two I don’t think have been mentioned is Gunfight at OK Corral(1957) or War Wagon.
Tombstone Kurt Russell
Lonesome Dove. It might have been a TV mini-series but Ive seen all the great westerns and to me Lonesome Dove takes a back seat to none of them. If it had been a feature length movie Robert Duval would have won Best Actor and it would have won Best Picture and cleaned up on the rest.
Liberty Valance hands down number one. I much preferred Strother Martin as Marvins snickering, sniveling side kick. River of No Return is a must for this list.
