So which paragraph are they going to extrapolate out into 10 episodes?

Already saw it. Too many midgets running around the mountains. They start to blend together.

Let me guess, they are going to make Sauron look like Donald Trump and change the land of Mordor to a “Red State”.

I wonder if they will extrapolate the history of the last alliance of Men and Elves, and the one ring. Isildur’s fall under the spell of the one ring would have a proper Game of Thrones feel to it.
or they could do the fall of Numedor.

My worry is that if it is the Silmarillion, that book is more fantastic than LOTR (features gods), which means more CGI, which does not sound like a good thing to me.

When is it going to be available?

...the Amazon project will be a prequel series based on Tolkiens works with an as-yet-unreleased story line. A little something from The Silmarillion? Eru Ilúvatar and his dysfunctional family?

A better thing to do would be to show the pre-history of LOTR Tolkien provided in the back of the third book: the rise and banishment of Sauron, how the 5 wizards came about, how Gondor came to be (Elindel, etc.), Lothlorien. I found as interesting as LOTR.

I'm sure this will make a lot of money BUT I hope they are faithful to the book(s).
Jackson's LOTR trilogy butchered several major characters to incoherence but I can watch the movies. I only saw one of the Hobbit movies and thought is was too horrible to view again.
I would love to buy a faithful rendition of Tolkien’s works. Hey movie makers, I’d spend beaucoup bucks!

Prediction #1: hardcore fans of Tolkien's books are probably going to hate whatever butchery is presented.
Prediction #2: Amazon won't have the guts to do material from The Silmarillion, but will simply extrapolate prequel stories about Aragorn, Arwen, Saruman et al. from the main LOTR text and appendix.
Prediction #3: Tolkien's surviving children, grandchildren & great-grandchildren will laugh all the way to the bank.

Gosh, what a bunch of bitzchy old people on this thread.
Here’s a life tip: Don’t like the idea? Don’t watch it.
Easy peasy.
