Wow, wth? Just a simple repurposing of the main characters for a prequel without reference to the appendix or the Third Age? That would circle the drain in pre-production - Orlando might not be able to open as a lead (Kingdom of Heaven) but he is forever Legolas in the same way that he is forever Will Turner...
