FULL TITLE: Ten-month-old French Bulldog puppy dies on a United Flight after air crew 'order its owner to put it in overhead compartment'

A ten-month-old French Bulldog puppy has died after a United Airlines flight attendant allegedly told the dog's owner to put it in the overhead compartment.

The owner boarded United Flight 1284, from Houston's George Bush Intercontinental Airport to New York's LaGuardia, on Monday, with her puppy in its carrier.

But fellow passenger, June Lara, who sat behind the owner on the flight, told Chron.com that a member of the flight crew said the animal should go in the overhead bins.

What a heartbreaking story. Poor little puppy never had a chance.

10 month old Frenchies are usually waay too large for those. Regulations say the carrier has to fit under the seat.

I don’t disagree. Travel by air just is the worst. I did it two to four times a week for years as a business traveler. Perhaps it will add ten years to my life because I learned how to bear every delay, bother, rude event, small terror, difficulty and aspect of poor service without letting it effect me. I had to use it. My job was a good one in other regards so I learned to ignore or deal positively with a lot of it.

United was one that was so bad I found ways to avoid them as a carrier.

We fly United, as it’s really the most logical choice, for our destinations, etc.

We loved Continental and were just sick when United took them over/merged.

We were on a flight, the day the deal was official. Flight attendants were NOT happy. They confirmed that United would be bringing Continental DOWN to its level, not the opposite :(

That’s exactly what has happened.

In ‘05 I flew United out of Heathrow back to Kansas City. A 13 hour flight turned into a 47 hour nightmare. My wife wouldn’t fly again for almost 3 years.

Another solution would be to not allow any animals in the passenger compartment.

Ding, Ding, Ding!! We have a winner!

So how are the airlines handling pigs and chickens in passenger cabins now? While we’re going all third world and the like,...

Indeed. Airplanes are not your own living room or automobile.

Lara said that when the plane eventually landed three hours later and the owner, who was with her two young children, opened the overheard luggage, the dog was dead.

Sorry to hear this but 3 hours and they didn’t check on the dog? Another solution would be to not allow any animals in the passenger compartment.

It was a puppy!

I love dogs and cats.

This crap of people bringing dogs, cats, peacocks, or whatever on planes has to stop. What a load of BS.

It’s a stupid place to put the dog but why did it die?

Too hot in the overhead compartment and the air doesn’t flow through there..

United Airlines employees appear to be trained to consider their customers as dumb primitive savages

Everybody is getting their panties in a twist over this non-story. It was a damn dog. In Korea, they eat the puppies. Deal with it, it was a dog. Get another pet.

What a stupid post, do you really not comprehend that it's not the dog that's important, but the connection the owners have to it? Of course it's just a dog, that's not the point. What made it valuable was the love of the owner.

"Get another pet" is an idiotic statement.

“United Airlines employees appear to be trained to consider their customers as dumb primitive savages”

If your 40 hour a week job was to service the disgruntled overweight masses into seats those are clearly too small for their fat asses, you would also be doing the same thing. Remember, when you leave the plane and are happy to be out of that cage, the flight babysitters will be ready to haul in another angry pack.

This is the job that they wanted -———I wasn’t aware the flight attendants were unable to quit their jobs../s

The United Airlines flight attendant should be in a shelter kennel with several angry pit bulls.. save money on dog food. Do we have the name of the flight attendant? Let’s post a pic so others can be forewarned their K9 buddy might be in danger if they see that attendant on their flight and they have a dog.
