Five years ago, when actor Michael Douglas candidly revealed that his throat cancer was linked to having oral sex, two things happened.
He made headlines that mortified his family. And he helped publicize the fact that a pervasive, sexually transmitted virus called HPV was unleashing an epidemic of oral cancer among men.
Since then, scientists have made headway in figuring out why HPV, the human papillomavirus, has this glaring gender bias. Men are four times more likely than women to be diagnosed with oral cancer, a hard-to-detect, hard-to-treat disease that has overtaken cervical cancer as the most common HPV-related malignancy in the United States.
To be sure, changes in sexual norms over the last few generations have played a role in this alarming trend. But research increasingly shows the real problem is something men have practically no control over: their immune response.

Was he suffering MoDo disease?
Malignancies are “quite” common, too.
Nasty as well. Facially disfiguring.
“Play stupid games, win stupid prizes” as somebody said.
Better yet, no oral sex. Screw the evil vaccine.
I was having a good day.
Thanks! /s
They used to get PSA tests frequently, but then the powers that be decided that they didnt want to scare men unnecessarily, so they arent paid for by health insurance anymore, so men dont get them as often. A relative in Britain, whose father died of prostate cancer, was told by the NHS that he didnt need PSA screening. This relative is 66 and doesnt know whether or not to fight for the tests, as the NHS wont pay for it anymore. And Britons are conditioned to believe if the NHS says you dont need it and they arent going to pay for it, then you must not really need it.
Because in most cases, Father Time WILL come up to you.
So, you would recommend women get a pap smear every year?
And yet the Clintons remain alive. Barely yes but still here for now.
Does this mean that Michael Douglas got oral cancer from his “habits” with Catherine Zeta Jones?
Absolutely. Especially women who are sleeping around, so to speak. If a woman is in a committed relationship (and she is SURE she is in a committed relationship) then I wold say get one for three years straight and, if negative, maybe she can slack off on the every year thing. But HPV has some virulent strains and women do need to be careful.
I think the article is conflating heterosexual oral sex stats with homosexual oral sex. Although the lead spoke about a heterosexual example, the stats on men with oral HPV medicated cancer, iirc is primarily homosexual.
Just keep an eye out for any trouble spots. Make sure your dentist examines you at least twice a year.
>>Do cancers that men get more really matter in our society?
The sad truth is that the answer is “no”.
Even when prostate cancer gets mentioned for more “awareness”, it often gets lumped in with colo-rectal cancers and then gets shuffled to the bottom of the pile.
He’s got a wife like Catherine Jones and he is into men?????? Good grief!!!
And partly because men voluntarily don’t monitor their health as much as women, and don’t see their health issues as being part of some “men’s issues.”
Here's a pic of his wife. I'll let you decide.

The left has screwed enough with the language. I dont want to play footsie with it here.
You had the right idea, but ‘play footsie’ was a poor choice of words to use in a comment about homosexuals, am I wrong?
Yes..... But what a way to die!
I texted this link to my pharmacist girlfriend at work a few minutes ago with a note that said: “Sorry.... I can’t go down on you anymore”.
The Break-Up text message should arrive at any second.
These diseases don’t occur in faithful marriages.
