In recent decades the scientific consensus has been that the moon formed billions of years ago from debris cast off when a Mars-sized object dealt Earth a glancing blow. But a radical new theory holds that some long-ago giant collision actually disintegrated Earth, causing it to balloon out into a vast doughnut-shaped cloud of vaporized rock, which the scientists who developed the theory dubbed a synestia." They say the moon subsequently formed within this cosmic maelstrom.
In the long-accepted explanation of lunar formation, the collision between Earth and the Mars-sized object, known as Theia, ejected part of Earth's mantle essentially molten rock and metal and left debris orbiting our planet. Over time, the bits of debris collided and clumped together to form the moon.
But when the researchers used powerful computers to simulate this process, they ran into the same problem that has long vexed scientists examining the Theia theory: It was hard to see how the collision and the ensuing clumping of debris could explain the moons unique chemistry, said study co-author Dr. Sarah Stewart, a professor of Earth and Planetary Sciences at the University of California, Davis.

If the moon was formed from a disintegrated Earth, why is there still an Earth? How did it reform? Theory may explain the Moon’s formation, but ignores what happened to Earth.
The answer to all questions is God created everything.
Set it right next to the Milky Way Coffee Shop in Roswell. /s
The answer to all questions is God created everything. We know who the chef is.
We're just trying to figure out the recipe.
I always thought the Moon broke off because of Global Warming
If Mrs Scientist had a headache the night before, hed express the theory much differently
Do a quick calculation and figure out how long it would take to drive to the sun. Or to take a commercial jet.
Space is huge.
Utterly mind blowing. What I find astounding is it’s pretty much similar to atoms which are mostly empty space. That’s why they were saying when it comes to something like the Voyager 1 it probably will never get his by a comet, meteor or sucked into a planets gravitational pull because the universe is mostly empty space, so quite possibly that thing could be out there for billions of years which is unreal. But Mars, I never really visualized how far that planet is. Just imagine that when you were born you were placed in a car that left for Mars, a car that went a standard 70 mph on the highway. From the time you were born till now that car has been driving non stop 24/7 and you will only be halfway there when you reach 114 years old!
Perfect

Yes indeed. Here’s a question which I’ve never gotten a satisfactory answer to...
If the speed of light in a vacuum is the constant c, and the vacuum of space is pretty much “lumpy emptiness”, IE, lots of nothing mixed with the occasional solar system or galaxy, and, at an atomic level the “space” inside matter is pretty much the same thing, how come the “nothingness” inside a chunk of glass does not act like a vacuum to a photon instead of making it slow down by some percentage of c ?
Very nice compilation. Then there’s this, from NASA no less, on Transient Lunar Phenomena ...

It’s a God thing.
I think I’ll cruise on down to Dunkin’ for a hot cosmic donut.
What do you mean, but how light bends in glass? I don’t know if it slows down though, I guess it would though if it bends as it would have to take that extra time to go in a different direction, but yeah physics is pretty nutty. I remember reading one time that if it wasn’t for electromagnetic force matter would pass through each other, everybody would be able to walk through one another as atoms are mostly empty space. If you jumped off a building the ground wouldn’t stop you, you would just fall through the earth and keep on going. In other words it’s not the gravity that kills someone when they fall it’s the electromagnetic force. I have no idea how that works at all.
Thanks - I’ve seen it refer to, but never saw the actual report.
Source of all those facts. I would like to read more.
There was a certain Dunkin Donuts that had a drive-through and whenever my dog was in the back seat, they would often give the dog a free munchkin through the window. Not sure if munchkins are good for dogs but my dog liked going through that drive-through and would whimper in disappointment if the munchkin did not materialize.
