DNA from a 10,000-year-old skeleton found in an English cave suggests the oldest-known Briton had dark skin and blue eyes, researchers said Wednesday. Scientists from Britain's Natural History Museum and University College London analyzed the genome of "Cheddar Man," who was found in Cheddar Gorge in southwest England in 1903. Scientists led by museum DNA expert Ian Barnes drilled into the skull to extract DNA from bone powder. They say analysis indicates he had blue eyes, dark curly hair and "dark to black" skin pigmentation. The researchers say the evidence suggests that Europeans' pale skin tones developed much later than originally thought.

Just in time for Black History Month
Everybody was who did anything of consequence was black. Or at the very least brown. And if they didn't it was cuz mean old whitey stopped them.
If it wasn't for whitey, we'd be flying space cars today.
Compared to that image, asians are quite pale as well. Many africans, also.
“Evidence suggests,” proves nothing. Politically correct science is synonymous with fake science.

Jesus, they just said that the first people to reach the area look like that, which isn’t some goofy out there claim.
And people on FR are losing their minds because somehow these people having darker skin is an affront to their souls?
Obviously the conditions of Britian led to a change in skin tone due to colder conditions and less direct sunlight. DUH! This has been known for years that mutations happened. That is why we have people there developing red hair and green eyes.
8 thousand years is a long time for this to happen, and is perfectly reasonable, so some of you can stop making us all sound like loons getting worked up because that skin color is too disgusting for people to ever have had.
Now that I am a minority, I wants my benefits. White people should be screaming racist at brown folks.
OK. I’m ready. I’m supposed to feel some White Guilt over this, but you’ll have to explain it to me. I know this is White Guilt month, and that I’m expected to flagellate myself regularly. But why? I haven’t done anything.
If the skin is actually that dark (not sure because I do no longer trust scientists with gov grants) then he would most likely be one of or a descendant of the Iberians who migrated into Europe and the Isles.
Well said, skin color is largely a function of environment. So people today that have fair skin, like Scandinavians, are fair because their ancestors have been living in lands that look like the North in Game of Thrones for 10,000 years.
Why are people going crazy over this. Human beings and chimpanzees and certain apes share 96-98% of the same DNA. All humans share about 99% of the same DNA (some studies have said as high as 99.9%).
Kind of shows you, if you believe in God, that that 1% variation producing so many different looking people among 7 Billion humans, points to God. In addition, the basic theological truths of the OT that God created Adam and Eve and all humans come from common ancestors is consistent with what Science tells us. In other words, Faith and Reason are not contradictory fields, yet all point to a Divine Power.
