....[A]t this time roughly 12,800 years ago, according to a new study from the University of Kansas that a comet struck our planet and triggered massive wildfires. This impact also triggered a short glacial period that temporarily reversed the previous period of warming, which had a drastic affect on wildlife and human development.

...[T]he team combined data from ice core, forest, pollen and other geochemical and isotopic markers obtained from more than 170 different sites across the world. Based on this data, the team concluded that roughly 12,800 years ago, a global disaster was triggered when a comet measuring about 100 km (62 mi) in diameter exploded in our atmosphere and rained fragments down on the surface.
The hypothesis is that a large comet fragmented and the chunks impacted the Earth, causing this disaster. A number of different chemical signatures carbon dioxide, nitrate, ammonia and others all seem to indicate that an astonishing 10 percent of the Earths land surface, or about 10 million square kilometers, was consumed by fires.
... As fires rushed across much of the planets landscape, the smoke and dust clogged the sky and blocked out sunlight. This triggered rapid cooling in the atmosphere, causing plants to die, food sources to dwindle, and ocean levels to drop. Last, but not least, the ice sheets which had been previously retreating began to advance again.
This quasi-ice age, according to the study, lasted about another thousand years. When the climate began to warm again, life began to recover, but was faced with a number of drastic changes. For example, fewer large animals survived, which affected the hunter-gather culture of humans all across North America. This was reflected in the different types of spear points that have been dated to this period.

Nice. Thanks for posting.
It was 3 pm. On a Saturday . . .
Ping.
If the comet hit a large body of water, it could have created a tidal wave. Perhaps the source of Noahs flood?

But plastic soda straws are going to be the final ... straw to kill off all life as we know it.
Trump’s fault
Were the birds aroused? You know how they are...
It’s always nice to commemorate these significant anniversaries.
Does it say which half of the earth got nailed?
I have a good friend who is one of the authors of this study.
Close, no cigar. Would not bet my life on prognostications by these two-bit “scientists.”
” This impact also triggered a short glacial period that temporarily reversed the previous period of warming, which had a drastic affect on wildlife and human development.”
Uh ! There it is !
A climate paper can’t be published without at least mentioning it.
How would that start fires?
I missed something.
What is it about plastic straws all of a sudden?
Did the CEO of a soda straw company say something mean about Hillary?
“But plastic soda straws are going to be the final ... straw to kill off all life as we know it.”
Perspective. In World Wars one and two thousands of tankers were torpedoed, burned and sank. Entire cities were burned to the ground. Yet a year after World War Two, there was little evidence of that. But one oil well leak will destroy life as we know it. Hence there is no drilling off Florida. Yet other countries have thousands of wells in and around the Gulf of Mexico, but not many for the US. There is so much hysteria about the environment and so little perspective.
Maybe yes maybe no but at least they got funded (Federally?) for their research and isn’t this what it’s all about? Getting paid?
The hypothesis is multiple fragments impacted the glaciers across North America and northern Europe. Instantly melting a large portion of the ice resulting in massive global flooding. This fits a large number of the flood myths across the globe.
Younger Dryas impact theory.

The impact created a nanodiamond layer, and it flooded the planet. Discussed here: https://theworldwideflood.com/
Bottom line: geology’s “no flood, ever” paradigm is the biggest error in the history of science.
I wonder... Could the eruption of a caldera have had the same effect? Just curious how they are convinced it had to be an asteroid causing the widespread burn.
