Any suggestions for a good book?

Posted on 01/13/2018 11:16:58 AM PST by A Cyrenian

Can you give me some suggestions for a good read (beside FreeRepublic)?

I've always like Tom Clancy's books and Dean Koontz.

I started using Kindle and thought I would ask you what you liked.

Thanks for your help.

Funny I pegged Child as British from his first book.

Well, either that or from New York City.

I read a number of books by British authors and they all have a positive phobia about fire arms. You start reading a book and someone starts having hysterics at the sight of a gun and 98% of the time it is a contemporary British author.

If you liked “The Corps” series, you’d like “The Brotherhood of War” also by W.E.B. Griffin...

I’ve read a couple of the Bob Lee Swagger series by Stephen Hunter, and thoroughly enjoyed them.

If you enjoy Star Wars (SciFi/Mil) I cannot recommend the Galaxy’s Edge series enough by Nick Cole and Jason Anspach.

The Missionaries by Owen Stanley for a little humor

One Second After by William Fortschen (I think I’ve read at least the followup also)

Almost anything by Elmore Leonard. His later works were the best. Many made into movies. Like “Get Shorty.

Or you could grab one of the classics:

Bleak House by Dickens,
Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen,
East of Eden by Steinbeck, etc

No. 1 - Virtually any book written by Winston Churchill. All but one have a historical context and virtually all are written in the first person. No one has ever had his command of the English language.

No. 2 - Ken Follett, Eye of the Needle is good as are all his books

No. 3 - Any of Bernard Cornwell’s several series of historical novels. I recommend you begin with the War Lord series about King Arthur: The Winter King; Excalibur; Enemy of God.

No. 4 - Tim Dorsey. Light, laugh out loud funny, Florida-centric books. The main character is a hyper-knowledgable Florida serial killer named Serge Storms. There’s about a dozen of them, maybe more.

No. 5 - Peter Matthiessen’s Shadow Country

Just to get ya started... :-)
