Taylor Swift’s ‘Reputation’ tour shaping up to be a disaster [Tix $$$$]
NY POST ^ | 01/01/2018 | By Richard Morgan

What is Taylor Swift’s “Reputation” worth? Not the jacked-up prices she’s charging for concert tickets.

That’s the verdict from ticked-off fans, who are balking at buying seats for the 28-year-old pop star’s tour to promote her new “Reputation” album, citing stratospheric markups and greedy sales gimmicks.

“I paid $150 for my ticket with amazing seats for the 1989 tour. Now for the same seats I have to pay about $500,” Twitter user “swiftieloves” recently griped.

A look at Ticketmaster’s interactive seat charts confirms that Swift’s schedule of 33 dates for the North American “Reputation” tour has yet to produce a single sellout, from its May 8 launch in Phoenix to its Oct. 6 finale in Arlington, Texas.

That’s despite seats being available to the general public since Swift’s birthday on Dec. 13. By comparison, all the dates on Swift’s “1989” tour in 2015 “sold out within minutes,” according to concertsandsports.com.

Still a long time to sell tickets. Pure market theory says if you sell out in minutes you’re not charging enough.

Taylor, you are making it as hard to get a seat at your concerts as it is to get into an Enya concert.

Ah, thanks. I apparently would have needed to care enough about her “music” to get it.

She made over $170,000,000 last year so I wouldn’t be too stressed if I am her.

She could lower the price and make it up in volume. Say, $50 admission, and fill the largest arena.

Ha Ha I can remember in the early eighties that it wa $8 to sit on the lawn at Blossom Music Center and $10-$12 to sit in most areas in the pavilion.

I remember a ticket to an Elvis concert cost $15 in 1977, which was about average for most performers. That is about $60 in today’s money.

Fans virtually get the music for free these days. The primary way for artists to make money is ticket sales to concerts.

I still have all my concert ticket stubs from the early 1970s. We would see our shows at the now gone Spectrum in Philly. I saw Dave Mason,Chambers Brothers and Roy Buchanan for 6 bucks. Also Bad Co.,Bedlam and Uriah Heep for 6 bucks too. Those were the days.

I wonder how performers are compensated from concert sales. Do they just get a cut of the gross, or do they basically have to pay occupancy costs, some of which might be determined by headcount.

No one is worth anything close to $100 of my money.

I agree, but it is partly because I’m old, and because I’ve had the opportunity to meet a fair number of famous people. Once you just see someone like Taylor Swift as another young girl with a makeover, and some good business sense and the ability to afford good musicians, arrangers and producers, you want to go to one of her concerts because you want to see a good show. And the “good show” value is around $50.

But most people who are still mesmerized by “celebrity” will pay a LOT more.

The only person I ever met that I really wanted to meet, and DID meet was Sarah Palin. But even then, it was not meeting her that mattered. It was getting to talk with her, one on one, for almost 45 minutes. As a musician, I’d pay $500 to talk with Taylor Swift for 45 minutes about her music and how she got where she is. I think it would be worth the money. I have a feeling her time is worth more than that, though. :)

Led Zeppelin at Madison Square Garden Feb 12 1975. Ticket was 6 bucks. Most I ever paid for a ticket was 50 bucks to see the Stones.

For 500 bucks a ticket, TS will have to take me to dinner and give me a goodnight kiss. On the cheek of course.
