At one point it is climbing at 110 degrees. Recall that
90 degrees is straight up.

at inclines of up to 110 percent

% grade is different from degrees...

100% is 45 degrees (rise over run).

It doesn’t say 110°, but 110% grade. Percent grade is defined as the amount of feet in elevation versus the number of feet traveled forward; hence a 110% grade means a change in elevation of 110 feet for every 100 feet traveled horizontally. It’s a little less than 48° angle, maximum, or (in British gradient measurments) 1 in 1.1.

It said 110%, not 110 degrees. Arctan 1.1 is about 47.72 degrees.

The barrel-shaped carriages adjust their floors so passengers can still stand upright even as they climb towards the Alpine plateau...

It's your turn in the barrel today, not mine! ;-)

Interesting, but lacks the cachet of a cog railway...

...but probably safer and more comfortable.

I read that too. The article speaks of PERCENT, not degrees of “up”

Quebec City Funicular is 100%, or 45° angle, or 1:1.

Like the Gateway arch circular elevators in St. Louis on a much grander scale.

“What did you do while you were in Switzerland?”

“I rode a swinging funicular.”

“Well, that’ll make you yodel.”

There is a similar “train” in Hong Kong.

The design looks similar to the elevator in the St Louis Gateway Arch

I watched the video, and read the information.

I remember traveling the Palm Springs Tramway, doing my best to enjoy the different ecosystems along the rise, all the while bug-eyed and white-knuckled. A week later, a tram car malfunctioned along the most almost unaccessible portion of the cable, and folks were stuck for a day.

Sure, this is an engineering feat. The first complete run is a benchmark.

I’ll come back and look at it in a year.
