The first that comes to mind for me: "E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial". Sappy and overly sentimental.
(And while I'm at it, "Titanic")
Yup it’s terrible.
There’s so many but “field of dreams” comes to mind.
The Perfect Storm.
It says that it’s based on a true story, but then NOBODY lives. it can’t be based on a true story; there was no one left to tell it.
I have noticed a lot of people didn’t like “Chariots of Fire’ but it may be my all time favorite movie.
Lawrence
Lawrence of Arabia
He was an English Guy
He came to fight the Turkish....Meep meep!
I thought it was just me.
There are lots of movies with boobies.
There are very few movies with gigantic coal-fired boilers.
I thought ‘Inglorious Basterds’ was hilarious. Bon-jor-no.
Good point.
Titanic - never once did the movie convince me that a young woman engaged to a rich fiancé is going to throw all of that away for a fling with a bum.
Miracle on 34th Street - Argggghhhhhh!
Terms of Endearment - No character development, we are confronted immediately with this young woman’s cancer diagnosis. Then there are half-hearted attempts to develop some depth to the characters which are derailed by the fact that we are supposed to be mourning the fact that this young woman is dying of cancer. We do find out that she’s going to leave her kids motherless, information no doubt intended to invoke uncontrollable sobs from the audience. Oh, and did I mention that the main female protagonist is dying of cancer? I don’t know how I managed to sit through the whole thing, but I did get up about every ten or fifteen minutes to let my husband know, “She’s still dying!”
Amadeus - Couldn’t get through 20 minutes of it.
Then rent ‘A Night to Remember’ 1958
No sex drugs or filthy language..just the horrifying facts.
Rated as one of the best Titanic films ever made.
“Teddy ______’ Williams knocks it outta the park! Fenway Park’s on its feet for Teddy _____’ Ballgame! He went yard on that one! On to _____’ Lansdowne Street!”
Cloud Atlas . They spent a lot making it and the critics loved it. I thought it was stupid. Especially the part where men are fighting and dying so a moron can broadcast a sappy speech . It droned on as if the speech was importing some profound secrets the state was trying to hide.
I do remember in the theater, when Jack became a popsicle, all the guys cheered.
I was just speaking to someone who used that movie to bolster his view of WWII history. He is just one of many over the years I have encountered that have been influenced by that movie and its leftist demigod Henry Fonda.
Anything by Terrance Malick. People go gaga over some of Kubrick’s movies and I never got that. 2001 is the best cure for insomnia I’ve ever found.
Recent movies, Wonder Woman was a crushing bore. Pretty much anything that is nominated for an academy award these days is God awful tripe.
I saw that Chariots of Gandhi movie.
Not one stinkin chariot in the whole movie.
I understand Buttons. I guess alot of us, well I should say I love inane silliness with no rhyme or reason and Mel Brooks fills that for me. I loved the Airplane movies too but the Naked Gun as funny as it was seemed over the top to me the high priestess of silly. Too many sight gags or something.......guess I’m nuts........lol
