He is perhaps the most portrayed president in American history. But fans of The Crown can expect to see a different side of John F. Kennedy when he appears in the show's second season. On the surface, Micheal C. Hall's Kennedy may seem ever the charming and inspiring leader, underneath the facade is a jealous, controlling husband and a high functioning drug addict. The Netflix drama, which focuses on the lives of the British royals, pulls no punches as it portrays JFK as a scheming conniver who is prone to sudden outbursts when he away from the public's gaze.

What did Kennedy want to dismantle?
What did Kennedy want to dismantle?
The fed
Take Kennedy's drug use and lay it on top of the way he handled the Cuban Missile Crisis. Did Kennedy's need for a drug high influence his actions? Did we come to the edge of nuclear war because the president was drug addled?
If you're part of the Military Industrial Complex and the Foreign Policy Community, do you want this man in charge? If he refuses to resign and refuses to stand down his reelection bid, do you just do nothing?
We are slowly being prepared for the truth about Kennedy, his drug use, his recklessness and his corruption.
Maybe the Clowns In America, too
Liberals frequently and casually make accusations of misogyny against non liberal men. Yet it is well established that Joe Kennedy and all of his male offspring were classic misogynists.
My father (USMC) was stationed at the Pentagon (1959 -1963) when Kennedy was in office. Much of my father’s time as an officer during peace time was as an ISO and military liaison to the civilian press. I recall him talking about how the press in private, even in his presence, would laugh about Kennedy’s womanizing.
Our neighbor across the street from us in Woodbridge, VA was Kennedy’s copter pilot at that time. My father also noted that wasn’t healthy for this pilot to be hearing what he would be hearing. Curiously, he was abruptly sent to Nam and subsequently KIA there. Dad maintained that neither the transfer nor his death were happenstance.
The CIA, for one.
“JFK’s stain is just a little darker than the rest. “
Teddy’s was worse IMHO.
.
I believe Jackie was a junkie, as well. Her doctor was her supplier. (I think her doctor was JFK’s doctor — “Dr. Feelgood”.)
“So The Crown is a documentary?
I enjoyed the last-year’s episodes. Not real able to judge the accuracy.
I hope the Kennedy dirt portrayed is relevant to the main story. Otherwise it is a cheap way of attracting viewers, kind like putting Taylor Swift on Time’s cover as an abused woman.
Thanks C19fan. Modern history, so not pinging. Oh, wth, I'm pingin' the list. JFK acquired his lifelong back ailment in WWII service. He had back surgery in the 1950s -- in fact, he scheduled it to coincide with the censure vote on Joseph McCarthy, because JFK's constituents were largely supporters of Tailgunner Joe, but because of party politics, JFK would have had to vote for censure (the resolution was softened to condemnation, btw).
Wow I NEVER considered that reason for going after the Italian mafia.
Brilliant. Thanks.
A family built on an Irish bootlegger’s money was doomed from the start.
Apparently, only the UK is allowed to be honest about US politics.
I binge watched it when it first came out on Netflix. (Always interested in the use and abuse of power.) The episode on Churchill's handling of the Great Smog, in London in 1952, that killed 4,000, is particularly interesting. While I knew of it, in passing, I didn't pay much attention to it. Since I NEVER trust any one source, I did some research, and it was just as bad as portrayed, as was Winnie's dismissal of it as an act of God.
However, like most things, no one person can be blamed, and other than banning coal burning until the inversion passed, there wasn't a whole lot Churchill could have done.
Some say the bankers killed him. Having the bankers against you means you are not all bad..

I see your point, but that cowardly scum had more time to stain, so the stain rate per month was less.
Plus ça change, plus c'est la même chose
Had it not been for his family connections, his loss of PT-109 would have gotten him a court-martial.
EVERYTHING about the Kennedy’s was-and has been- a fantasy intentionally constructed by the MSM. JFK was, in retrospect, an amoral, cheating pig in real life. Nothing like the dashing Camelot fantasy still being foisted on the public. If we knew HALF of the sexual antics of JFK and all the Kennedy’s it would make all the current harassment news look like innocent comedy. Mistresses, Whitehouse trysts, waitress ‘sandwiches’, drowned pregnant mistress, rape in the younger generation. And these people are STILL held up as honorable men to be admired!
