Why don’t these idiots ever learn they can catch more flies with honey.
Women and minorities hardest hit...
I’m not getting arrested for Inappropriate touching or sexual abuse. If you infarct... You are on your own baby!
“Sorry, Darlin’. I may run for office someday.”
I held a glass door open this week. I could see a woman walking briskly towards them. I was about to enter, she was about to leave.
I paused and held the door open so we didn’t collide passing through the doorway.
She avoided the open door, opened the other one and said “thanks anyway”.
Fine. Next time I’ll just barge on through (I’d arrived first) and ignore any bitchy comments.
30 years as a firefighter doing CPR on full arrests and I can emphatically state this is BS. We were definitely more careful with modesty with females but not in vigorous CPR.
It’s a very traumatic procedure often with clothes being cut off, chest bones getting broken, and all sorts of IVs, Oral Airways, and electric shocks.
Most witnessed full arrests don’t recover, and 99% of unwitnessed full arrests die, male or female.
“America’s hang-ups over sexuality and gender could cost women their lives when their heart suddenly stops, a new study suggests.”—reluctance to put your mouth on a stranger you’re not married to isn’t a “hang-up”, except perhaps for immoral morons like Dennis Thompson.
Just one more reason Bruce Jenner is wrong.
Well...DUH!
“Thank you for saving my life. You are under arrest for touching my chest.”
There was one case where an entire volunteer EMT squad was brought up on charges of sexual assault. A woman had done an amazing job of turning her car into a pretzel (really bad wreck), where the automobile extrication was a real challenge. The only place to get a pulse was via the femoral artery, the rest of her was behind a mass of twisted wreckage. Thus the woman accused the entire EMT squad of rape.
After a long trial, the volunteer EMT squad was found not guilty. At the end of the trial, the fire chief told her that if she had another accident in the county, no EMT squad in the county would touch her.
Simply put, women suffering from cardiac arrest in a public setting are less likely to get lifesaving CPR from a passerby than men are,
I believe this. My CPR instructor said, I don’t care if it’s a 14 year old girl, you expose the chest.
Is it hangups over sexuality? Or is it fear of lawsuits?
Hang-ups? How about decency, dignity & decorum?
I don't know who comes up with these studies, but it's likely complete drivel.
I've only seen CPR given once in my life, and the recipient was female. She was an older woman and kept alive about 25 minutes while we awaited paramedics.
Those delivering the CPR were a nurse (female) and a man who had been trained for this activity.
The recipient was a woman at my church, not particularly healthy and about 60 years old. She died just over a year later of some version of heart failure.
People trained in CPR aren't going to respond more slowly or not at all because the person in need is female. It says right here, that's bunk, and a reporter who would allow a byline on such a story needs a new line of work.
As a former EMT I call “horse hockey”.
Sorry Doc (and ladies) but you can’t criminalize behavior as innocuous as a pat on the back and then expect men to risk everything they have for a stranger. Especially given our ass-backward legal system.
I wonder if part of it is that symptoms are sometimes very different in men vs women of a heart attack.
Also, I think people seeing a man hit the ground immediately think heart attack. Seeing a women hit the ground, people think faint, vertigo, blood sugar, any number of things before thinking heart attack.
