The National Football League continues to struggle with furious fans as player protests enter their second month, with ratings for the NFLs flagship Sunday Night Football down a staggering 25% from this time last week.
According to Deadline Hollywood, television viewership for the troubled football association continued its free fall from previous weeks, with roughly one quarter fewer fans tuning in as the Detroit Lions faced off against the Pittsburgh Steelers.
With that, as the league and broadcasters have been losing ratings traction and snared in political controversy this season, last nights Week 8 NFL game is down a hard 25% for SNF from last weeks gridiron battle. That Super Bowl LI re-match saw the New England Patriots blowout the Atlanta Falcons 23-7, writes Deadline.
The NFL has been struggling to regain its footing following weeks of players choosing to take a knee during the performance of the US national anthem. The ensuing controversy gained national attention when President Trump called for a total boycott of the NFL until officials and owners require players to stand during the Star-Spangled Banner.
As a result, ratings, ticket purchases, and merchandise sales have plummeted as football fans protest with their wallets.

Basketball must be quaking in their sneakers about all this.

If you are referring to the NBA what will make them quake?
They already have this covered in their Rules
The decline will continue. One by one the owners will come to realize what a train wreck their business has become, and that Roger Goodell is responsible. The owners came out on top in the last CBA negotiated by Goodell, so they were willing to cut him some slack. A LOT of slack. He is now in the process of flushing it all down the toilet. The owners are realizing that Goodell did well in the CBA and TV deals but those mean absolutely nothing if revenue and ratings are plunging. They will take their blinders off and look at the long line of idiotic decisions he has made including BountyGate, Ray Rice, DeflateGate, Ezekiel Elliot, and many others. They are dwarfed however by his tone dear handling of the Anthem issue. He even got a 2nd chance in the off-season to get it right but instead double-downed on his refusal to enforce league rules on Anthem decorum. The owners will conclude that they desperately need a new face of the NFL. Someone who represents minorities and women but will have no problem enforcing league policy for Anthem decorum. Say hello to new NFL commish Condoleeza Rice. Her hiring addresses the issue over the NFL’s perceived lack of action on player misconduct with women. Her hiring addresses issues involving race. She can speak authoritatively to the players in their issues and how to be heard without making political statements while in uniform. She is about the only hope the NFL has of getting back on track after they get rid of Goodell about 30 seconds after the Super Bowl is over.
Like finding out your poker buddies have been cheating you.
The game is over. There may be some revenge, but no game.
>> Hey Disney/ABC/ESPN
Exactly. Disney is a large part of the problem — a depraved leech feeding on American traditions.
How do you watch tv for free on a computer? Not that my husband would ever agree, just curious.
To be honest, I would not have bothered watching those two teams play regardless of my refusal to watch any NFL.
It was totally unforeseen. /sarc
I used to be a die-hard Pittsburgh fan but will never ever again watch the Pittsburgh Kneelers...or the NFL.
My NFL gear went out with the trash a few weeks ago and is by now buried deep in the local landfill.

It’s sad, really sad.
I always looked forward to all the football games (especially the Packers).
Now, all I have is an empty feeling when the weekend approaches.
It doesn’t help that my cat just died, too.
That poor cop got fired today for wearing that costume.
This scenario could happen.
“Now, all I have is an empty feeling when the weekend approaches.”

Then watch the games-——and enjoy them.
.
NFL = No Funds Left
That's better.
What games?
It's not a business, it's a rich man's hobby for most of them. Jones is the only one that treats it like a business, the rest have just been along for the ride. (Jones doesn't NEED to make money, he just likes to)
Do you think that Clark Hunt really needs to make money from his football team? Khan? Blank? Paul Allen?
Well see how this progresses. On Thanksgiving Day, Detroit and Dallas host games. Those same day / same team records go back decades, almost everybody is home and able watch. The other game this year is Redskins/Giants - that promises to be a hot mess. Black Friday this year may have an ominous and new application.
What is wrong with a fawn feigning blindness? Merci. :)
