The National Football League continues to struggle with furious fans as player protests enter their second month, with ratings for the NFLs flagship Sunday Night Football down a staggering 25% from this time last week.
According to Deadline Hollywood, television viewership for the troubled football association continued its free fall from previous weeks, with roughly one quarter fewer fans tuning in as the Detroit Lions faced off against the Pittsburgh Steelers.
With that, as the league and broadcasters have been losing ratings traction and snared in political controversy this season, last nights Week 8 NFL game is down a hard 25% for SNF from last weeks gridiron battle. That Super Bowl LI re-match saw the New England Patriots blowout the Atlanta Falcons 23-7, writes Deadline.
The NFL has been struggling to regain its footing following weeks of players choosing to take a knee during the performance of the US national anthem. The ensuing controversy gained national attention when President Trump called for a total boycott of the NFL until officials and owners require players to stand during the Star-Spangled Banner.
As a result, ratings, ticket purchases, and merchandise sales have plummeted as football fans protest with their wallets.

World Series competition affected it this week.
Who’s next?
NFL ratings are down 20% from 2 years ago. That is huge!
Watch the holiday merchandise sales. This is a key indicator.
Awwwww. Such a shame. Imagine all the ripples down the line. Lighting people, makeup people, graphics people, design people, sound people, etc, etc, etc. Enough people to the jobs illegals used to though. ;-)
Players get 58% of the Revenues they are so stupid
What a game too. As a Die Hard Cubs fan who had to go thru last years World Series game 7. That game last night was one for the ages.
It’s too late, I already know how 70% of the players feel about me, my flag and my country.
Pride comedy before the Fall..
NFL thought they were bigger than America....
America knew better.
I have heard networks must show "make good" free advertisements to make up for views not seen during games. BEFORE Trump tweeted, they had already lost $200 million in ad revenue.
Whoops! Forgot a “do” somewhere in there.
The NFL has calculated that the lost revenue due to kneeling is less
than the cost of a player strike, impacting ALL revenue.
They spite the flag that frees them.
Sunday night is meaningless. The NFL was up against an awesome World Series game and one of the NFL teams was Detroit.
Football never had any problem with baseball.
I have seen Broncos gear, in Denver, already 10%-20% off.
These fans aren't coming back.
Sudden Death
Football has always beaten baseball, so that wasn't the issue.
Lets see how Monday night football goes.
