The National Football League continues to struggle with furious fans as player protests enter their second month, with ratings for the NFLs flagship Sunday Night Football down a staggering 25% from this time last week.
According to Deadline Hollywood, television viewership for the troubled football association continued its free fall from previous weeks, with roughly one quarter fewer fans tuning in as the Detroit Lions faced off against the Pittsburgh Steelers.
With that, as the league and broadcasters have been losing ratings traction and snared in political controversy this season, last nights Week 8 NFL game is down a hard 25% for SNF from last weeks gridiron battle. That Super Bowl LI re-match saw the New England Patriots blowout the Atlanta Falcons 23-7, writes Deadline.
The NFL has been struggling to regain its footing following weeks of players choosing to take a knee during the performance of the US national anthem. The ensuing controversy gained national attention when President Trump called for a total boycott of the NFL until officials and owners require players to stand during the Star-Spangled Banner.
As a result, ratings, ticket purchases, and merchandise sales have plummeted as football fans protest with their wallets.

Some players wife will be told she cant have a new car this year. Then you’ll see the sheet hit the fan.
I think their ratings would improve if they fired the kneelers— If there was a strike then the fans would still come back to watch...
Well, there was a world series game, right?
No, they don't. They have chosen to allow the protests to occur on game day. Forget any belief that this insults the flag, veterans, etc. People pay a LOT of money to be entertained and get sway from day-to-day nonsense to a few hours. These atheletes have chosen to take that away from them. Given that, I hope they triple down and continue middle-fingering many Americans.
Owners will weather the season and try to figure it out in the off-season.
Heh, I watched it, not solid maybe, but I was locked in. Very interesting game. I watched a lot of the Bears Saints game too. First real NFL viewing for me this season. I never know.
"He broke me...[sob]!"
I’m a UFC fan - a number of years back there was some nutjob that showed up to an event with “Just Bleed” painted on his chest - did a weird growl at the camera and became sort of a cult figure on some of the MMA blogs - sounds like we need to get him out of retirement at an NFL game :-D
Basketball must be quaking in their sneakers about all this. That’s the only other sport that is absolutely dominated by blacks in the US.
Throw a monkey wrench in the money machine that you are all actively participating in in order to make an incoherent political statement about anger at... something white.
Honestly, and I guess at this point the owners are there, let them kneel. If they want to be anti American let them hang themselves. Red state America is still in a mood to punish somebody for all this crap. Sh!t is gittin’ exciting!
p.s. a lot of those guys who are on the bubble are going to be exiting the league real soon.
What, Monday Night Football which has only been available on expanded cable for the last 10 years? Stick a fork in ‘em. People are cutting the cable too. Actually I think this has more to do with the demise of the TV numbers.
Yes, my good FRiend, and also how they feel about the military service from me and my fam as well.
All over the country, millions of patriotic Americans are gaining productive, non-nfl free time on Sundays, Mondays and Thursdays.
And, they feel better about themselves!
NFL gets flushed down their super toilet bowl.
I was at Dick’s Sporting Goods on Sunday. The wall facing all the checkout registers was 90% Cavaliers, 10% Indians and no Browns. Of course the Browns are oh and 8 so even without the kneeling, people wouldn’t be buying their stuff.
To be fair, it was up against what has proved to be a very entertaining World Series. I’d be interested in knowing those numbers hold once the WS is over.
Meanwhile, patriotic Americans should petition NFL team owners to take their toxic ball clubs and move to some other state. Just go!
Can you imagine the pride of a state like, say Florida, if the Governor could certify that the state was “certified NFL-free. No cases reported for over one year.”
That would be a cause for celebration.
The Left pulled the NFL into their bubble. This is what happens when you live in a bubble.
