Actress Reese Witherspoon has revealed that she was sexually assaulted by a director when she was 16 years old, the latest in a series of claims about abuse in the film industry.

“This has been a really hard week for women in Hollywood, for women all over the world, and a lot of situations and a lot of industries are forced to remember and relive a lot of ugly truths,” Witherspoon said at an event in Beverley Hills this week.

“I have my own experiences that have come back to me very vividly and I find it really hard to sleep, hard to think, hard to communicate a lot of the feelings that I’ve been having about anxiety, honestly, the guilt for not speaking up earlier.”

She divulged, “I have my own experiences that have come back to me very vividly and I find it really hard to sleep, hard to think, hard to communicate a lot of the feelings that I’ve been having about anxiety, honestly, the guilt for not speaking up earlier.” Witherspoon, who debuted on the silver screen at 15, continued, “[I feel] true disgust at the director who assaulted me when I was 16 years old and anger at the agents and the producers who made me feel that silence was a condition of my employment.”

The Academy Award-winning actress went on to claim that the incident was just one of a number of times she had been sexually abused throughout her career. “I wish that I could tell you that was an isolated incident in my career, but sadly it wasn’t,” she said. “I’ve had multiple experiences of harassment and sexual assault and I don’t speak about them very often.

[This is a golden opportunity.]

Time for BILLY GRAHAM to pitch a revival tent in HOLLYWOOD while their hearts are softened. Only JESUS can heal the emotional wounds inflicted on victims by predators.

She tried to give him a Snickers but he had his heart set on Reece’s pieces.

[More likely the assault occurred with one of her projects released in ‘93, I think.]

I was thinking the same thing. Most releases hit the following year after editing, promotion, scheduling, etc.

That’s why I looked at “Jack the Bear” - but as you say, the guessing game could harm an innocent person.

“Silly boy, when your little darling is going to bring home millions of dollars, then who really cares?”

That’s called prostitution, and in this case child prostitution by parents. That should result in at least 20 years in prison.

Not if you're a celebrity molester. I still have to listen to Jackson's crap at the mall, in the gym, etc. And every time I have to listen to it, I ask myself, do these morons know that they're playing a child molester's music? Isn't there anyone else's music we could listen to?

Thank you and it is equitable (proper) to say there are companies who try to use the technology in a correct (good) way. Inspiring humanity, instead of degrading it.

Technology is double edge sword, and too often humanity slices its own throat.

I agree, and it is true that there is a downside to using the misfortune of an innocent as weapon against an enemy.

I simply wish some of them would speak out. I have to say, when I had a similar opportunity to do so later in my life...I seized it and did so.

It was a high point in my life for me, not because I was able to help nail someone, but that I was able to confront it and them, and in my heart, forgive that person as black as they may have been. Seeing that person in a courtroom as a broken, pathetic excuse for a human being removed my hate, and left me feeling simply that the life of that person was a pathetic waste of a glorious thing we all have the opportunity for...and that is a happy life.

I didn’t know that I had the capability to do that, and I learned something about myself and the value of forgiveness, something I have always remembered.

It is important to note that forgiveness doesn’t mean someone shouldn’t pay for what they have done. It means that you don’t have to carry it with you for the rest of your life as toxic cargo.

It happens in other industries.

That is why we have many of the HR laws we do.

It is also why, when I shared an office with several young women, I never had the door shut.

This is a lovely crisis to cover up what happened in Las Vegas.

Why, yes, it is. To the same extent that Las Vegas was used to cover up the NFL crisis.

Were these actresses dropped on Earth from an alien spaceship?

No, she claimed she was an American Citizen when she pulled a "Do You Know Who I Am" with cop that pulled them (hubby) over for suspected DUI.

The cop was impressed with her obstructive antics, and rewarded her by clapping her hands in silver bracelets for D&D, iirc.

Of course it does. The world is imperfect. But her statement implies that it occurs at the same level as it does in the entertainment industry. The left always applies moral equivalency in situations where it is not warranted. This makes her sound like she is a victim of "Stockholm Syndrome".

I didn’t see your post as a rant at all.

I believe these things should be left to the individual, to their own conscience and tastes.

I don’t watch television programming (with the exception of one football game a week in season for the past 45 years, so that history makes me somewhat evil around here these days) or news or read newspapers/magazines and have not for going on twenty years now, but...I go out of my way not to criticize those who do. If someone turns on the television, I politely leave the room to do something else.

I don’t understand how they can tolerate it, being subjected to it because it seems mind-numbing and toxic, but that is their business, IMO. It should be a personal decision as I see it. I watch a lot of movies, though it is fewer new things, as I plumb the depths of content further and further back to even the Thirties.

I have made a lot of changes in my life based on political motives. Things I don’t read, listen to, or watch, foods I eat, products I purchase. My most recent one was stopping all Coca Cola products after that disgusting homosexual commercial I saw. Stopped cold turkey. And I can say, without reservation, that I consumed more Coke products than any person I have ever known. I could easily drink 6-10 12 oz cans of Coke a day, sometimes more. People will say I should have stopped for other than political reasons, but I don’t force my choices down the throats of others, so I resent it when they force their choices on me instead of respecting them.

But that is how it is these days.

Witherspoon has no first hand experience in other industries to my knowledge. If she has, then she should be specific and not trash industries across the board.

She should address what she herself has experienced, in the industry she is involved in.

If people in other industries have problems, and I don’t doubt that they do have some, then it’s up to them to come out and say so, relate their experiences.

Witherspoon was running cover for the movie industry. In effect, she is still running cover for the industry whose members abused her. Oh, they’re no worse than any other industry mind you. (by inference)

I don’t know of other industries where the top named female employees are sexually abused to the extent the movie industry female employees have been.

Do you?

I don’t deny there are bad eggs out there. They should all be rooted out.

It bothers me when there is a problem, and people try to blame that problem on everyone. It’s tantamount to saying, “All men are abusers.” No, not all men are abusers. Some men are.

Is every man a Bill Clinton, a Harvey Weinstein? No.

Some women claim that. That’s why I reject the loose or shotgun blame games. Specifics only, thanks.

As for you keeping the door open, good for you. Smart move.

Republicans? A majority of them are not shocked and even support the War on Women perpetrated by the leftist global communists & practitioners of Islam!

Anyone not protesting and/or fighting Islam is promoting misogyny!

Because there are no entertainers who work in all three industries, so she can’t know.

All three industries?

Mr.Edd, why do you support her inferring that other industries are just as bad?

Is it your take they are?

Please name one that you know of where most of the top female staff of that industry have all been raped or groped.
