Just got off the phone with my brother. His house of 29 years is one of those that burned to the ground in Santa Rosa. Absolutely horrible.

I’m down in San Rafael (Marin County), where it’s far removed from Santa Rosa and still pretty safe. Even still, I recall sniffing the air last night and smelling smoke. At first I thought maybe somebody is BBQing really late. I still smelled it at three O’Clock and thought “Who’s using their fireplace full blast around here? They are going to get a ticket. Plus,it’s not that cold.”
I heard what sounded like the light patter of hailstones being sprayed over the grounds. This morning, my car was covered in white ash. The sky remained overcast until about
2pm. Some schools will be closed tomorrow. Much of the school staff lives north of here. Many need to go home and tend to matters where it’s still burning.
Sometimes I wonder if the world truly is coming apart, or if we just know more due to technology.
It’s probably a little of both.
And, then sometimes I know the world is unraveling. It’s coming undone.
I wish I could be more cheerful. But I would not bring a new child into this world.

Nice nieghborhood and not inexpensive houses. Based upon your knowledge of the area, were the roofs a tile, or wood single style cover. Up in Butte County we have metal for two of our three roofs. THe Barn is the usual composite shingle probably past its lifetime.
It looked ofr the most part that things were cleared around the homes as much as possible and greenery all around. Shocking how the fire came through and attacked just what it wanted to attack.
Did I hear ammo cooking off?

Interesting. I lived in Santa Rosa for a year or two during elementary school. I really enjoyed having the creek in our back yard and riding my bike to the candy shop that had the best popcorn and chocolate bubble gum ever.
