"I want to reach out to you, the members of the Steelers Nation based on what I believe is a misinterpretation about our players' intention in not taking the field for the National Anthem in Chicago."

Well it is almost October.
But Big Ben called it a protest. Which is it, Steelers? Can’t have it both ways.
Way to go, Squealers. How does it feel to not be able to show your faces in your own town?
When was the last time you saw a video of a mob of WHITE teens raiding and robbing a convenience store?
They can't come to grips with that other part of his criticism. They're still trying to wrap their minds around the completely outlandish idea that the President of the United States would call humiliate the NFL for the quality of its entertainment.
Stop trying to rationalize and explain and apologize.
You’re just spinning your wheels but end up with foot in mouth.
Same as Villanueva and Roethlisberger, et al.
The NFL should let he players do as they like, take a knee (like slaves in the docks did), lock arms or honor the flag and anthem. Only tell the networks not to televise the players during this time.
Yes, I’m sure they are about to learn the hard way
Even billionaires feel it in their billfolds. Imagine Steeler gear is not selling so well.
More than that, they are actually breaking a rule of the NFL by doing so

Game Operations rulebook, not the game playing rules
Don’t be fooled, Steelers fans!!!
Where is that? In my part of Florida, local radio was calling for their heads.
Utah. Things tend to happen slower here.
Seems like the real leaders are the NFLPA and not the owners/NFL.
They’ve started a fire that they cannot control now.
Sure, plenty of people (millions) will still periodically check in and check out some games. I include myself in this category (with sound muted so I don't have to hear the commercials they immediately cut to every 60 seconds between play). But the fans who associate & externally project the mercenaries, eh, players, as on field heroes representing their city/region?
Here's the killer asteroid perspective: fans who wear uniforms, say "we", and spend hundreds - if not thousands - on team paraphernalia that buys them in with their associated peer group(s). How can they still suspend disbelief? The cover has been blown, and it's obvious to all, even those making excuses, that players are nothing but thugs with incredible athletic skills.
As it becomes more apparent that the NFL is nothing more than a corrupt, anti-American entertainment enterprise essentially engaged in racketeering, comprised of criminal thugs who beat the living shit out of each other for others' enjoyment, the sheen washes right off. How can the league survive with viewers like myself who are mildly curious and enjoy the competition (that isn't fixed), but in no way, shape or form mistake these ingrates as anything other than paid gladiators?
That's the long-term problem. Any one who has broken up with anyone knows the process: the 5 stages of separation. Once the emotions are out, it's just a business decision. The NFL had a fine run, but nothing lasts forever.
Shows how out of touch they are if they think this BS PR release is going to be accepted by the majority
That's a great point. We shall see where this is all going on Thursday night football.
Hey Mr. Rooney, two words...F You!!
Too bad Widmark was a dedicated anti gun guy.
