Week 1 of the NFL season had plenty of important stories worth following, but maybe the most entertaining was the mostly empty stadiums in Los Angeles and Santa Clara. Both the Los Angeles Rams and San Francisco 49ers had sparse crowds for their home openers, and that has not gone unnoticed by the NFL.

Interesting, well-reasoned point.
I stopped watching the NFL about decades ago for just that reason. They get paid millions to do a job yet they celebrate every little thing. For well over 25 years I watched a total of the equivalent of maybe two games, a few minutes here and there.
Two years ago I watched my first full game on TV and was actually getting interested again then the protests started last year and I just tuned back out.
There was one Bennet brother on the Seahawks who sat during the anthem. Two of his teammates stood, but stood next to him instead of in line with the rest of the team. There was another Bennet brother on the Packers side who stood, but raised his fist in the black power salute during it. Nobody else did anything.
Seahawk Bennet got the wind knocked out of him or something at one point in the game. When the trainers walked him off the field, there was very little applause for him. Usually when an injured player is taken off the field there is polite applause.
Of all the major sports, football is the most boring to witness live. At least when you are home on the couch, or even at a bar, you can occupy your time with all the endless commercials, time outs & penalties. And you get replays between plays & at other times. In a stadium, you just sit there waiting.
After almost 2 years? They took this long to connect some of the cots?
For billionaires, who are supposed to be so smart in their business endeavors, they sure took a long time to figure some of this out.

It’s money. You’re correct. I’ll give you my example: I live and grew up outside of Boston. I played HS and college football and love the Patriots. We’ve been lucky to watch the Brady era, 7 super bowl appearances in 18 seasons. Ridiculous. But do I go to the games? No. I’ve been to one, and only because I received a free ticket.
I have 3 sons who all love football. If I want to take my family to Foxboro, here’s what I’m facing:
5 ok seats: $375+
Parking: $50
Concessions: lets say a beer for me and the wife, 3 sodas and a hot dog for each of us: $50
So just the basics, at least $475.
Now add in the terrible drive to Foxboro, traffic, gas, etc. Forget it. But the Pats sell out every game, so I guess I’m an outlier. I’ll sit my ass in front of the 50 inch screen, nice fire going, cheap beer in hand, home-made nachos, clean bathroom, non-belligerent company, etc. Or not. I have plenty of other fun things to occupy that 4 hours.
We all know, that any NFC teams that ends up with Brady, has the best chance of meeting the Patriots in the Superbowl, and still losing.
L.A. proved long ago to be disinterested in Football and now wonder why they have 2 half-empty stadiums.
Oh....and then there’s the politics of the players....

Perhaps one part is because the town & the SHAREHOLDERS own the stadium....
Getting season tickets there is impossible, and sometimes the fight over an estate is the hottest over the Packers season tickets-—not the land or the farm or the business......
Clever. I think you might be taking advantage of the situation. I think Kapernick should be Aaron Roger's back up QB. And so does Aaron Rogers. I'm betting you are ok with that too.

Unless he signs with the Giants. The Giants don't know how to lose to the Patriots in the Super Bowl. :-)
Santa Clara, Los Angeles & San Francisco - yea, very Liberal areas that the NFL should move their teams and stadiums out of.
It is more than simple greed; it is absolute denial that a population increasingly living paycheck to paycheck has any money for expensive bread and circuses. Our casinos here in NJ were devastated by the Obamaconomy (then by competing casinos in neighboring states); they are looking for alternative uses for Atlantic City so the whole thing doesn’t turn into another Camden (90% already is). The ripples of the Greater Depression are still very much felt in southern NJ; home values continue to plummet.
Now add to that for the price of the tickets for you and your boy for one game, you can buy NFL Season Ticket and watch all the games.
Especially since they chose not to build parking facilities for Levi Stadium, and use existing local business parking lots on Sundays when they are closed.
The result is a massive backup after every game as the attendees all leave at once through side streets. A planned parking structure would have included fast-track access to the freeways instead of dumping everyone onto surface streets around the stadium, then having to deal with random traffic light patterns that are set for usual weekend activity.
