A new study has shown that most men reach their boring peak at almost 40 years of age, as this is when they have completed many of the things which people deem to be exciting tasks.
The research was carried out by home rental site Airbnb, who surveyed 2,000 people in the UK as part of an attempt to work out the optimum age for boredom and excitement.
According to their results, people are most likely to be be trekking across the desert, dancing on bar counters or taking up base jumping at the age of 27, and become more dull when they take on more responsibilities after entering their 30s.
Women, however, allegedly reach their optimum age of "boring" earlier than men, with the survey suggesting they become dull at just 35 years old.
According to those polled, things that make people fun include: Staying out until the early hours on a weekday, trying a new hobby, going out of the way to make a new friend, booking a spontaneous holiday, learning a new skill, visiting a friend unannounced, changing jobs, going on a spontaneous shopping trip, asking someone out on a date, and trying a new sport.
Interesting. I am finding that same trend in myself, and I only just turned 60...reminds me of this:
“...Anyone know why there arent any blacks in NASCAR? Nothing to do with racism. Answer: They just dont have the balls.”
Here’s one that HAS balls and is a four time world champion:
I can’t stand the guy but he can drive.
BTW, F-1 cars accelerate at 4 Gs, and commonly corner and break at 5 G’s. Takes BALLS to do it.
Trying a new hobby Does a new hobby include using power tools? How about taking up pipe smoking? Or is it a narrower definition of what constitutes a hobby?
Going out of the way to make a new friend I think this is great, but...is it really a sign of a non-boring person? Some of these people have to be avoided like the plague.
Booking a spontaneous holiday Okay, this one I personally have down pat.
Learning a new skill Define "skill"...:)
Visiting a friend unannounced This is a sign of getting older and having respect for others and their time. I was encouraged to visit one of my closest friends unannounced, who has become reclusive and won't see anyone due to illness, and it didn't turn out well.
Changing jobs Okay. What is so damned exciting about changing jobs. People who change jobs enough to be "exciting" can also be flighty and undependable.
Going on a spontaneous shopping trip I don't get this. What is "spontaneous shopping trip"? I mean, the only time you plan them more than a day in advance is for a sale or some weird item that has to be transported. This is another indication the people who chose the criteria for this "survey" are fruits.
Asking someone out on a date Let's see. Does that include calling my buddy and saying "Hey, you want to go kayaking on Saturday?" Or does it have to be someone of the opposite sex. Or, same sex? Or changing sex? Or someone you don't know? What?
Trying a new sport. Does drinking moonshine while laying in an extremely unstable, custom made hammock that will drop you (if you make a mistake) on to concrete four feet below you count? If there has to be risk, then I assume that would be included. They need to define "sport" better.
See you next Saturday Night, LOL!
If we could harness the power of ear and nose hair we could rule the world!
You have a very good point. Excitement is addictive. It leads to a need for more and more excitement. Better to be avoided. Not that that’s possible or even desirable all the time, but it’s good to bear in mind.
Wildly inaccurate, starting with the fact that I”m a woman and do not hit on other “old broads.” The rest is just ordinary low-class insults. I pity you in your old age. You’ll think of this whenever someone insults you on account of their ageist prejudices rather than your capabilities.
Did they also do a study on what age women become boring at?
If one starts, ping me to it :)
Sounds like a winner. I will try - I am learning this as a I go!
