Who should we donate in support of Harvey?
Vanity | August 29, 2017 | Self

OK Freepers, what is the best charity to give to support Harvey?

The Red Cross? I have been hearing them panned since Vietnam.

What about the Salvation Army?

Hey, the Clinton Foundation did great work in Haiti, just ask Hillary.

What are your suggestions?

That is disgusting. I have heard similar stories as well. Red Cross and Salvation Army are two of the worst charities but they live on by using their well known names.

Samaritan’s Purse is the way to go!

Aww...poor wittle Sally.

You are criticizing me for calling you a jackass?

Really? After you responded to another poster to this thread as follows:

So...in response, you're all butthurt at S/A.

Other than them pulling out of Mar-A-Lago, have they done anything else worthy of your butthurtedness?

Yes, you are a jackass!

And then you refer to me as being ignorant of certain facts.

To quote you:

Such as:

WHICH Salvation Army chapter actually was agreed to be at Mar-A-Lago, and then pulled out.

WHICH S/A chapter is actually boots on the ground in the Houston area.

Did the parent S/A organization force or pressure the local chapter to pull out of Mar-A-Lago. (highly unlikely)

So many questions you can't answer.

So many questions you're not intelligent enough to think to even ask.

Let me cut to the chase to answer your dumb accusations in one fell swoop.

Here is Kurt Watkins the NATIONAL SPOKESPERSON FOR THE SALVATION ARMY:

Salvation Army spokesperson Kurt Watkins:

The Salvation Army relies heavily on fundraising events like The Holiday Snow Ball in Palm Beach to further our mission of helping those in need through a range of social services including food for the hungry, relief for disaster victims, clothing and shelter for the homeless, and opportunities for the underprivileged, because the conversation has shifted away from the purpose of this event, we will not host it at Mar-a-Lago.

So who is (as you said):

So many questions you're not intelligent enough to think to even ask.

Get it...Jackass???

Apparently it remains you. You now "clueless" jackass to boot.

Thanks for proving my point.

Texas Baptist Men. They seem very well-organized, especially for this sort of disaster, and they’re nearby.(I’m not a Texan and not a Baptist.)

My father in law used to tell story about being pulled off the line in North Africa and they saw a Red Cross tent. They were dirty, tired, and generally just beat.

They also did not have any money because they were in the invasion and did not carry any money.

The Red Cross was selling coffee for 5 cents. And none of his team had five cents on them.

He told that story every time he heard anyone talking about the red cross.

The other thing about the Red Cross is that when they collect blood, they turn around and charge the hospitals for it. And they charge quite a high retail price.

Rev. Graham's Samaritan's Purse...my choice...and the choice of informed conservatives everywhere for this particular tragedy at this particular time of political lunacy.

Seriously???

Maybe before getting your panties in a knot, you should have read the post I was responding to.

Both the Red Cross and Salvation Army cancelled events at Trump facilities b/c they were too butthurt over “his Charlottesville comments”....

WAAAAAAAAHHH!!!! They pulled their gig from Mar-A-Lago. WAAAAAAAAAAAHHH!!!!

That's called being butthurt.

The S/A is a charitable org, that relies on donations from ALL people.

Seems SOME people might have had an issue, for one reason or another.
To AVOID a big hubbub over the venue, they decided to change it. Hopefully for something more NEUTRAL.
Some place that EVERYBODY could enjoy, without getting there underwear in a bunch.

You were gracious enough to post what the head of the S/A wrote:

Salvation Army spokesperson Kurt Watkins: The Salvation Army relies heavily on fundraising events like The Holiday Snow Ball in Palm Beach to further our mission of helping those in need through a range of social services including food for the hungry, relief for disaster victims, clothing and shelter for the homeless, and opportunities for the underprivileged, because the conversation has shifted away from the purpose of this event, we will not host it at Mar-a-Lago.

What he said is... that the focus for SOME people became more about the venue and distracted from the mission of what the Salvation Army was about.

The very fact that PEOPLE HERE are butthurt
PROVES EXACTLY what Mr Watkins said to be true.

If this was any other venue, no one would have cared.

The Salvation Army IS and HAS been a top notch aid organization.

It's jackasses like you and others on this thread who care more about THEIR POLITICS, than about ACTUALLY helping others, by denigrating the reputation of a fine organization.

You don't want to donate to the S/A? That's fine. That's your decision.
But dissuading others, NOT BECAUSE the S/A is an unreliable organization, but because they didn't kiss your political a$$.

You and others here are no different than those Antifa a$$#oles, or the liberal media.

Trump made a statement that included EVERYBODY involved at Charlottesville.
And liberals found fault that he didn't cater to their views.

Likewise, the Salvation Army made a decision for a venue that could accommodate EVERYONE involved, and those here are outraged that their views aren't catered to.

By their actions pulling their Fund Raising events from Mar A Lago, The Red Cross and the Salvation Army essentially called President Trump a Fascist Nazi loving Racist.

I would think you might understand why some People here think that is unforgivable, no matter the good work they do.

There are other Humanitarian Aid groups in LA and TX who would gladly accept any Financial Donations.

I gave some today to Samaritans Purse...may do the same tomorrow.

They are the best.

If Franklin Graham is still running it when I die, I may leave all my assets to SP. We're talking big money here. Perhaps a thousand or so.;-)

Well not all, I am going to leave my house to a good animal charity.

The one you are promoting.

The response by the SA should have been that they will not change their plans, after all a great deal of money had already been spend on the Mar-a-lago event. They would simply say that this event had been held there in the past and as they do not regard politics they see no reason to change things now.

That would be the fiscally responsible thing to do.

As it is they are spending money that could be used to help the needy to make a political statement.

That moves them out of the category of charity into the category of political group who occasionally might do some charity work but it is no longer their primary mission.

Being politically correct is now their primary mission.

Read #69. Salvation Army’s reply was sure the wrong one. SA turned political, and it’s a shame. I use to donate to it, but no more. And no need to get nasty when you disagree with somebody.

Seriously???

Read what you posted.

Here is what the head of the S/A wrote (emboldened mine)

Salvation Army spokesperson Kurt Watkins: The Salvation Army relies heavily on fundraising events like The Holiday Snow Ball in Palm Beach to further our mission of helping those in need through a range of social services including food for the hungry, relief for disaster victims, clothing and shelter for the homeless, and opportunities for the underprivileged, because the conversation has shifted away from the purpose of this event, we will not host it at Mar-a-Lago.

You actually posted
I would think you might understand why some People here think that is unforgivable, no matter the good work they do.

I'm sorry. Politics ALWAYS takes a back seat to helping people in need.

I remember a story where a number of religious leaders refused helping a beaten man. Meanwhile a man from an outcast group, who the religious people felt they were superior to, actually helped him. He went above and beyond the call, to help him.

And here, you and others consider your politics superior.

Pathetic.

There are other Humanitarian Aid groups in LA and TX who would gladly accept any Financial Donations.

You are absolutely right. There are.

Doesn't mean they are good.
Doesn't mean they're as good.

All things being equal, taking from one group to give to another is just shuffling money. Accomplishing nothing.

BUT...what's happening here is people trying to denigrate a fine organization, not because the organizations politics, the organization is trying to remain neutral, but because of their own.

The liberal media castigated Trump because he rightly included EVERYBODY involved in his comment, but he didn't hold to their political line.

The Salvation Army, likewise, tried to include everybody. But they are being castigated because they are not showing a political preference here, that people would like.
