OK Freepers, what is the best charity to give to support Harvey?
The Red Cross? I have been hearing them panned since Vietnam.
What about the Salvation Army?
Hey, the Clinton Foundation did great work in Haiti, just ask Hillary.
What are your suggestions?
No jackass, people on this thread are seeking the most efficient way of giving to an organization that directs its assets to those in need REGARDLESS OF POLITICS!!!
Their money is going to be sent to needy recipients via another more responsible source. It is as simple as that.
Get it?
As an old vet, I wouldn’t give the Red Cross fromunder cheese.
My donations have gone to the Salvation Army for decades. But now they have made a big mistake...HUGE mistake. They have gone political and joined the “Resistance.” No more money to the Salvation Army from Roccus!
I’m choosing to go with Samaratin’s Purse from now on.
We made a large donation to Samaritans Purse which is positioned in Dallas with equipment to go in when the storm stops. They recruit thousands of people to mud out houses of the needy and prepare them for rehab or rebuilding. They stay for years, doing this work.
And also to Mercy Chefs, a Christian non-profit who are now in Rockport and Houston. They prepare hot meals for the victims and first responders. Beginning tomorrow, Wednesday, they expect to be serving a total of 13,000 meals a day in both cities. We have contributed to this organization before—they do tremendous work.
I received an UMCOR notice about Hurricane Harvey as a committee chair in my UMC congregation. Far down page 2 under Important Information was a warning that they do not accept items for their cleanup bucket program that have any national symbols on them. You are advised to cut off or blot out any American flags that appear on the donated items or their packaging.
So I am all in with Samaritan’s Purse. They’ll tarp roofs, muck out the house, tear down the drywall, then return to rebuild once the house has dried out, and pray with you besides.

Red Cross is a joke. When we experienced Hurricane Katrina, Red Cross was hard to be found. We got most of our help from the local churches and, believe it or not, FEMA.
I recommend the Knights of Columbus, one of the most trusted men’s organizations around.

Thank you for contacting The Salvation Army's Online Donations Support team.
The decision by The Salvation Army in Palm Beach to cancel the event at Mar-a-Lago was not politically motivated. The Salvation Army's sole purpose is to help those most in need. This means families and individuals affected by poverty, homelessness, natural disasters, toxic behaviors, human trafficking, and much more. Fundraising events, such as the one we host in Palm Beach, seek to raise funds that allow us to provide the diversity of social services mentioned. The public conversation surrounding Mar-a-Lago has become politically charged, making the venue a distraction, shifting the focus away from the purpose of the event and our aim to fulfill our mission. The new location has not yet been decided, but will be coordinated by The Salvation Army of Palm Beach County. Again, thank you for reaching out and expressing your concerns. We wish you continued blessings, and we hope you continue to support your local Salvation Army and the programs they provide to your community.
Thank you and God bless,
The Salvation Army

Red Cross? Heck no, bunch of scammers.
Samaritan’s Purse
.
Sad that they see the salvaging of America as a “distraction.”
Who knows what they consider worthwhile.

Yaupon is full of wax. Even green it actually explodes into flames. That summer it was so dry the forest floor was full of pine needles that ignited the Yaupon up to about 20’ in towering flames up to 100’ high which ignited the rattan then the dry pine trees and oaks. The humidity was terribly low and it was 105 degrees. We had not had any rain to speak of since October of 2010, almost a full year. I pray to never see that ever again. We evacuated twice like so many others wondering if we would see our home again.
I can’t see how any of Ca in the fire areas is left. Another patch goes up in flames every year.
In the burned over areas they rooted out hot spots 6 or more feet deep of old pine stumps.

WOW!!!
Jackass...???
Really???
My comment wasn't even directed at you, and you start off with Jackass.
Here...let me explain how things in the world work, as you really don't have a clue. I'll type slow, so that you can keep up.
You said:
"people on this thread are seeking the most efficient way of giving to an organization that directs its assets to those in need REGARDLESS OF POLITICS!!!"
First, let's discuss efficiency.
S/A pulling out of Mar-A-Lago has no affect on their efficiency to help people. S/A has always been considered one of the best organizations for helping people in times of need. They don't question a persons politics and pulling away from Mar-A-Lago doesn't change their day to day operations.
Next you said: "REGARDLESS OF POLITICS!!!"
And yet...the very reason you won't give to them is because of political optics.
Next, you said:
"Their money is going to be sent to needy recipients via another more responsible source. It is as simple as that."
Part of what I do is deal with man power. I have to know what has to be done and how many people it takes to get it done.
I understand that I can only put so many people in a given area, before EFFICIENCY drops.
Time, space, materials, man power are all finite resources.
I understand you have the mental capacity of a typical Democrat, but no matter how much money you throw at a problem, short one of the other needed resources and EFFICIENCY drops and waste increases.
Speaking of resources. Charities themselves are resources. Not all these resources/charities are equal. S/A is one of a relative few who hold a reputation of being a reliable charity.
Remove one reliable charity from the group, you limit efficiency.
Samaritans Purse is one very good group, but they can't do everything, no matter how much money they have. Likewise with Operation Blessing. Or even any other reliable organization.
By themselves, no single group can handle every situation. The more TRUSTWORTHY organizations there are, the more that can be handled with the most EFFICIENCY.
Money itself is a finite resource. No matter how much is thrown, no one or 2 or three groups can handle all the needs that Houston has right now.
Lastly...it's obvious you're unfamiliar with, knowledgeable and informed giving to charitable organizations. But most large, international charities have local groups or chapters. Groups that operate semi autonomously from the parent group.
S/A is one such group.
Point being...
Before making ignorant all encompassing statements about a group like the Salvation Army, you should know EXACTLY who did what.
Such as:
WHICH Salvation Army chapter actually was agreed to be at Mar-A-Lago, and then pulled out.
WHICHS/A chapter is actually boots on the ground in the Houston area.
Did the parent S/A organization force or pressure the local chapter to pull out of Mar-A-Lago. (highly unlikely)
So many questions you can't answer.
So many questions you're not intelligent enough to think to even ask.
Get it...Jackass???
WHICH Salvation Army has become this???
.
>> “Red Cross? Heck no, bunch of scammers.” <<
For sure!
Back about 30 yeas ago, when I worked for the county public works department, one of my draftsmen was a guy about 20 years older than me who had been a captain in the Army during WW II.
He told me about a time when a DC3 full of donuts had been donated for the troops at Tumon Bay in Guam.
Did the Army just let them have the donuts?
Hell no. They let the Red Cross take the donuts and charge the troops for them!
.
.
The one I won’t donate another penny to!
.
And which one is that???
A note I hope people see about focus of help.
Harris County and that area will receive the bulk of attention but don’t forget about much of the Texas coast from Corpus Christi all the way up to High Island and now probably into Louisiana as the storm makes landfall again East of Houston.
The great Bastrop Fire was going on when the Tri-County or Riley Road Fire began in Montgomery County, Texas in September of 2011.
All the attention in the country was focused on Bastrop and it took awhile for the disaster in our area to become noticed and for help to start arriving. We fought a hard but losing battle until the air tankers came. Thank God for the red and white DC-10.
>>Samaritans Purse, without a doubt in my mind. Heres a link with a donate now button:

YES. I believe SP has one of the lowest administrative overhead costs of all the charities. It’s the closest thing to helping people in need directly. Sean Hannity has mentioned several times that he himself chose this organization as his charity of choice.
