It was designed to look retro for sure. After all who the heck has cassettes nowadays? I got rid of mine - about 100 to 150 of them - about a decade ago if I recall correctly.

I still have the pioneer brochure from that model year. I mowed lawns while in HS and saved up enough for the sx-580. Always wanted one of those beasts in the back of the brouchure...

Connecting radio through Bluetooth has numerous problems among which are;

Ads inserted over you program

Missing weather alerts

Delayed broadcast

Different non-local news

Dead air during key monologs and conversations

No thanks

I want my AM radio.

I’ll get one out of a junked car and get a 12 volt converter if need be.

Drool. I would literally make love to that beast.

Bluetooth is lossy. Consider a DAC (Digital to analog converter) instead. This one has served me well: https://www.parts-express.com/dac-digital-to-analog-audio-converter-optical-—coaxial-—usb—180-998 Much much better than Bluetooth. Nothing gets lost in translation. 24bit / 96khz

Yes it was a different world. We moved to Panama City when I was 4. That was 1951. There was no electricity in rural Walton, County until the 1950s.

Interestingly, PC had synchronized red lights way back then. If you hit one green they would all be green all the way down Harrison Ave.

Now my Greatgrandpa had hot and cold running water. A very bright lighting system which ran off of some gas. I think the same thing which miners lamps used. He also had a telephone system which ran to most of his relatives houses but no where else. It was the old kind you had to crank and it had a battery. All this without electricity.

He also owned his own locomotive and tracks.

I’ve had it since high school - was saving my grass-cutting money to buy a car, but saw this one go on sale because the newer model (the 1280, IIRC) was already in stock. Had to have it. I’ve always loved the silver-finished Pioneer equipment of the mid-’70s.

You sir have the holy grail of receivers. Thank the Lord you did not go with a 1280. In car terms you own a 1966 SHELBY COBRA 427 “SUPER SNAKE”

The 3.7is try, but they really don’t quite grab that last bottom octave. That said, they do amazingly well in the right room with the right placement. The Mye Engineering stands they’re on make a substantial difference. They are utterly transparent and lifelike. With food source material, they just disappear.

Yes, I know the Bluetooth rig isn't ideal - I just happened to have it on hand. I suppose the DAC would work with a tablet dock or similar - a wired connection would be superior.

I'll be glad the 1250 is back in service come winter - those heat sinks aren't just for show. I should build it into a coffee table and use it as a foot warmer. ;-)

I recall back in the day people routinely destroying their amplifiers by playing them way too loud. Crown and Phase Linear amps would go down hard.

Ebay is also your friend on this...

Look up Sangean radio....they make a host of different radios, portable and otherwise. Excellent AM/FM reception with digital tuning and presets. I love mine...not cheap though...well worth the money and you get what you pay for with these.

No. No conspiracy about AM. Rush is on FM in my locale and sounds much better than AM, which is why listeners have been migrating to FM since the 70s. It is called the market - you may have heard of it.
