Dunkirk is excelling with a $19.7 million opening day, bound for a $51M opening weekend at 3,720 venues. Thats a very good start for this movie Im told, one that will enable this British World War II title to leg out to a 3x multiple. Director Christopher Nolans previous movie Interstellar posted a three-day of $47.5M and churned a near 4x multiple at the domestic B.O., ending with $188M. His films just have great holds.

watched it at the IMAX which has the biggest screen in NE FL. My youngest boy, and myself loved the movie. it shows the sacrifice of that generation,l but it was sad to know that if war like that started today over half of this country would refuse to fight being the cowards, or political turds they are.
what I did notice was the lack of young kids like my teen boy. He told me that most kids have no idea who Churchill was, and they do not teach any of the war in history class now.\He said all they are taught is Fredrick Douglas, civil rights era, and slavery.
Now I see some liberals moaning about the lack of black faces in the movie. Well why should there be when there were hardly any back then.
That generation was truly a great generation. Today we have a snowflake who only care about themselves and their globalist , liberal social agenda
What they do teach now about WWII is about how bad we were for dropping the bombs on Japan.
Correct, today the snowflakes think we should fight wars with no killing what ever that means.
I liked it better than SPR. I read there was no dialogue. Didn’t need more than there was. I read it had overpowering music. Thought it spoke better than needless dialogue. I think it will go down as one of the best war films. My wife, who was born in Wales, whose parents lived through that, hated it.
She had a point: if you knew nothing about history and WWII, and the battle in particular, it will leave you quite flustered as to wtf is going on.
My wife and I hated Dunkirk. Absolutely sucked. Time jumps, lack of dialogue, cowards trying to get out, and not enough emphasis on the civilians. This movie really was a poor depiction of what actually happened.
Said that to my wife when we got back. I f you have no idea about he battle then it is a waste of time as you will hate the movie.
If you know about the battle then you don’t need endless dialogue. All you do is focus on the sacrifices those people displayed.
Saw it last night at an AMC dine in. It was good, though over hyped. It really should have focused more on the fight on the ground to hold the beach. The sound was excellent, especially the stukas when attacking.
<< it will leave you quite flustered as to wtf is going on >>
Doesn’t that describe war itself?

Too bad about ‘Valerian’.
They just picked the wrong weekend...

Here’s a good documentary that’ll educate you on Dunkirk with vintage photography, etc......
Can you imagine the perpetual hate-fest if Roosevelt and Truman had been Republicans?
Only after the first contact with the enemy...
I was thinking it would be set in the late 4th century. I was off by probably two millennia.
...how bad we were for dropping the bombs on Japan.
Sad they do not teach all of this, but then again maybe they do not teach all of this so the American people will not be proud of their country, and the people who made this country great.
Just came from seeing it. Loved it. Go see it...it truly was an awesome movie.
