The United States military may be about to undergo a radical change. The Marine Corps Times is reporting that theres an initiative in the works that might see Marines branch out, away from the traditional model that trained every member of the Corps on the basics of physical combat. Some of the new Marines may even skip basic training.
The idea gained momentum almost a year ago, when Former Defense Secretary Ash Carter suggested a military build up required soldiers with computer skills, and that these new recruits might be able to move into units with credit for their civilian expertise and experience acknowledged in the form of advanced rank.
The concept seemed ridiculous to many Marines who begin their military careers with rigorous physical training and a battery of drills designed to increase their proficiency with small arms.

If the marines keeps trying to be a smaller version of the Army, at some point their demand to be apart from the other forces will no longer make sense. Move the non-rifleman jobs to the appropriate branch and remember why the Marines are different, if they still are. Warfare is a lot different than it was in 1775
Not a Rifleman - Not a Marine. No nerd “pussys” in the Marine Corps.
I wonder if this means that recruits won't have to qualify with as high a score as before.
Is this real? First homos, then trannies, then women in the infantry... Now every Marine doesn’t need to be a rifleman?
2012, Camp Bastion raid. The Taliban stormed a Brit air base with a USMC air unit attached. Some of the pilots and maintainers from VMA-211 IMMEDIATELY fought as infantrymen, killing one attacker and injuring another who was trying to fire an RPG at a group defending the flight line.
That’s why. God I HATE the MFs deliberately trying to destroy the USMC.
My feelings and I said the same to my sons.
“Four years at Liberty, Bob Jones, or Pensacola and then into the Corps with you.”
My son was infantry, too. Go to Marineparents.com and join. I chatted with other parents in his unit and they have all the info you’ll need. Give your sons hugs for me and remember, there are millions of us prayin for them all the time. :) Mattis quotes are motivating, too.
I think Mattis will let him know how stupid it is.
I was in Air Defense Artillery (short range-Chaparral/Vulcan). We knew that when we ran out of missiles, we became straight leg infantry...lol.
I think they want them there to fix the hardware of the new tech stuff they use. I saw they now have tiny drones they can carry around with them. (great for seeing what’s on the other side of that stinking 10 foot dirt wall, eh?) Thing is, my son could probably have fixed that since he’s built his own gaming computer and was an infantryman.
“Will tiny drones become a must-have for soldiers?”

I am former Army Infantry and it was tragically shown in Iraq that lack of constant training and improvement of basic rifle skills and maneuver will lead to combat deaths. I have always admired the motto, “Every Marine is a Rifleman”. To lose this crucial concept and core makes the Marines just the Navy’s private army and no different than the regular Army which is bottom heavy with REMF.
bump
The Marine Band musicians dropped their instruments and saved the day for a lot of soldiers getting their asses kicked at the Bulge.
What a monumentally stupid idea. And so 21st century America.
Has a Democrat EVER had a good idea concerning our Military???
LI(B idiots everywhere attempting to destroy everything. God help the Marines...and us.
LIB idiots everywhere attempting to destroy everything. God help the Marines...and us.
No, I don’t think so. I just felt the earth quake at the thought.
No, but thanks for asking!
I hate to blow your Marine bubble, but there were no Marines or Marine Bands in the Ardennes Forest for the Battle of the Bulge in WWII.
