Bruce Springsteen Recalls Early IRS Woes: ‘They Came After Us’
Ultimate Classic Rock ^ | May 1, 2017 | Jeff Giles

After years of struggling to find an audience, Bruce Springsteen made it big in the mid-’70s — and soon discovered that failing to pay one’s taxes can have some pretty painful consequences.

“We were Willie Nelson in reverse. First of all, I never met anyone in New Jersey who paid his taxes,” he laughed. “They came after us. … Not only did I have to pay all the taxes that I hadn’t paid, and then bills that I hadn’t paid — I wasn’t paying any bills either.”

"I can’t stand that that guy."

Me either. He was in a Roy Orbison video back in the 80s, and his ego just stuck out like a sore thumb. And I call BS on this whole interview.

HE’s always come across to me as just another band guy who thinks his opinions matter outside of his music....which even that never appealed much to me....many are far better.

So Liberal Bruce wasn’t paying his taxes because he didn’t know what he was doing and besides, as he said, he didn’t know anyone in New Jersey who paid state taxes. I can sympathize with someone not knowing what they were doing but as to the second part, he sounds like a typical liberal hypocrite to me.

Nearly all progressives and socialists I meet think like that.

I read a book by Bob Weir which stated that the Grateful Dead didn’t begin paying taxes until the 1990’s ,, they pooled all the income , distributed it and since there was nothing left there was nothing to pay taxes on!!!

Then he bought $200 million in New Jersey triple-tax-exempt bonds, and all his problems with taxes were solved!

In the 60s, at least, the Dead owed Warner Brothers Records enormous amounts of money.

They pooled income and distributed it all? To whom? The members of the group? In that case each individual member of the Grateful Dead would pay taxes on their share of income, even if the Grateful Dead as a business entity didn’t have any income to be taxed.

He’s such a weak loser. 60 years later and he’s still crying about his pops being a working man of his generation.

Liar. He's a hypocrite tax and spend leftist who didn't pay his own taxes until he was caught.

I know that ,, you know that ... they apparently were too busy trying to invent lossless concert gear and dropping acid to understand.

That makes no sense. It seems like the Dead would STILL owe taxes.

It reminds me of the guy who won some ginormous jackpot in Vegas, then lost it all in some "business ventures".

He still owed taxes, even though he was now "broke".

I'd imagine that the IRS would take the Dead to the cleaners if they audited them.

They certainly weren't paupers living in cardboard boxes.

They lived comfortable lifestyles.

So he thought he could go through life and someone else would pay his way? What a tool!
