There are plenty of affordable communities on Long Island but the property taxes are just awful. I doubt, however, that they pay taxes.
The headline says in the island, not on it. It should be easy enough to track them down to the few area spelunking locales.

Both of my young adult children have been warned to not even drive through Brentwood under any circumstance.

There is often no oversight from the jurisdiction so these speculators pile in the illegals, very often sijngle young men. Also unlike gang banger groups like Crips and Bloods MS 13 members do not sit around drinking 40s and smoking blunts. They have real day jobs with landscapers and home improvement outfits which L I as in the thousands. So they haved real income while conducting drug and protection business after work hours.
They get a foothold into a middle class neighbor and gradually turn it into a slum.
Single family homes host a dozen “related” people.
