The Oakland Raiders will move to Las Vegas after garnering enough votes from NFL owners on Monday to relocate to Southern Nevada.

The Raiders received 31 of 32 votes to approve the move, a source told ESPN's Adam Schefter. Twenty-four votes were needed. The Miami Dolphins were the only team to vote against the move, a source told Schefter.

A bit of trivia.
There was no Oakland team when the AFL formed in 1959.

Minneapolis participated in the founding of the league and the first player draft but never fielded a team.

The Minneapolis group went out of business and the franchise was awarded to an Oakland group just two weeks after the initial the draft.

So the Raiders have been home hopping since the AFL was created.

I spent 3 year in 29 Palms with 5th Bn 11th Marines. Sept 1986-Sept 1989. It was by far my favorite duty station.

That’s why the AZ Cardinals wore their white jerseys at home for the first few games of the season when they played at Sun Devil Stadium. I believe the Raiduhs are trying to get a domed stadium built in LV.

Dude, I live in Yuma! I work outside year round. My knowledge of the Arizona heat is pretty damn intimate.

Las Vegas in the NFL family is understandable as I saw Barry Switzer and Jerry Jones there years ago at the Las Vegas Hilton. Each of them had two daughters with them.

“You can take the Raiders out of Oakland, but you can’t take the Oakland out of the Raiders.”

I guess there were too many fights in the stands while in Oakland and people just stayed away.

Commissioners always have to talk about wanting to keep teams in place, all the way up until the team moves.

With Goodell, it was more likely all the way up until he got his "taste" of the moving money.

They already migrated to Nevada and more arrive each day. Apparently they don’t want state income tax, or bought into global warming so much that they thought the Pacific would take out their homes.

No, Goodell’s never taken a hard position against it. Also Goodell knows the temperature in the room, he knew this was passing weeks ago, maybe even years ago. The only question was ever the financing of the stadium, and even that wasn’t really in question. But he also know that somebody out there has to take the public position that the Raiders should stay, at least if he doesn’t want TV ratings in Oakland to tank hard. It’s all PR while they stack up the cash.

Then why do the Lakers and Dodgers do so well there? L.A. has never really been a football town, certainly not like Green Bay or Pittsburgh.

“Los Vegas Raiders” sounds natural to me.

It should.

I don’t get it. In the ‘60s and early ‘70s, the LA Rams were drawing 90,000+ to the LA Coliseum.

Their attendance dropped off in their final years after moving to Anaheim, which is part of what prompted their move to St. Louis in 1995.

Will be interesting to see if they can sell out their new stadium.
