It is hard to overestimate the damage the Freedom Caucus has done to the fledgling presidency of Donald Trump, and to the country. By blocking the American Health Care Act of 2017, the conservative group has guaranteed that Americans will struggle forward under the burden of Obamacare. In the next few months insurers will announce their premium hikes for the coming year; chances are, given the continuing withdrawal of major companies from the marketplaces and the ongoing failure of the bill to attract enough young and healthy participants, the new rates will not be pretty. Last year premiums went up 25%; its likely the increases will be higher this year.
Republicans will own those higher rates. Their failure to repeal the financial underpinnings of Obamacare and start replacing that failing program with an approach that encourages competition and that embodies numerous other common sense reforms will mean that families hit by ever-higher costs will blame the GOP. Voters elected Donald Trump and a GOP Congress to get this job done the number one promise of every Republican campaign since 2010...

I never thought I’d see the day when principled conservatives would be derided for being, well, principled conservatives.
We know the enemy within our ranks.
And RINO is thy name.
Self serving political hacks, who are exempt from their own legislation, and their globalist overlords.
Wrong, wrong, wrong!
Trump and Congress need to better craft an actual free market bill, explain it and pass it.
They only need GOP votes to get it all through, and if it well done, they will have that.
I agree that counting on implosion is idiotic, because that will only lead to still more of a government takeover. (It was what Obamacare was originally designed to get us to.)
But it was a completely false dichotomy to present it then or now that the only choice was to pass Obamacare 2.0 or stay with 1.0. Not true! These uniparty drones have been bought by their corporate sponsors, but they can be made to feel the heat of their constituents.

Yesterday was a bad day period. It was a cynical, bad bill that Ryan pushed out there because he knew Trump almost had to throw full support for it.
As bad as it was it needed to pass with the hope Price could change enough to make palatable. I don’t think there would be a phase 3. That said, l wished it had passed. This hurt Trump at a time when he needs a big win. I’d say the odds against any meaningful tax reform are pretty high. No one should be happy today we all lost. In principle the FC was 100% right but taking the long view they should not have blocked it in the end.
This is totally wrong.
Be patient. In one year, we will have national healthcare for all, a border wall, expulsion of illegal aliens, and a 6-3 conservative USSC majority for the next 40 years.
It looks like the Freedom Caucus are nevertump - they were promised campaign funding by the nevertrump Kochs if they voted no. Read the comments linked on post 13.
Actually they were not nevertrump.
Majority of Freedom Caucus Supported and/or Endorsed Trump (10 early supporters prior to convention, plus 7 after GOP convention).
3 gave tepid support, 3 unsure, and 5 AntiTrumpers...
Dont believe me? read ...http://heavy.com/news/2017/03/who-are-the-members-of-house-freedom-caucus-list-of-representatives-do-not-support-health-care-bill-donald-trump/
From what I heard, they are not bankrolled by Koch brothers. Koch said they would support them after Trump threat to primary them. Not the same thing as being nevertrump.
Blame should go to the feet of Paul Ryan for putting forth hhis “Better Way”** Rynocare bill, not the Freedom Caucus.
**Ryan Introduced his Better Way initiatives to compete with Trump’s agenda during the campaign. He did not support Trump agenda. Ryan has never been a supporter of Paul Ryan and I will say I don’t think he would care if Trump were not President.
Garbage. The only “owners” of the problem are Obama and the Democrats. Once the negative factors of the ORIGINAL PROGRAM kick in, the pressure to replace will only increase, and make it easier to pass better legislation. Trump did exactly the right thing.
Let’s watch Obamacare fireworks
BS. You’re barking at the wrong tire you’re chasing.
So is Ms. RINO Peek.
The bill was crap. Replacing one massive government program with another massive government program is not a solution. Ryan gave Obama everything he wanted and can’t be trusted to move the nation dow a conservative path. Trump worship is the only thing damaged by dumping this bill. He is a man, not a savior.
Nailed it. Ryan shoved this through to avoid the costly political price RINOs are gonna pay when zerocare combusts sky-high soon. Now his lobbyists are going to outright war with the actual PEOPLE, and DJT will be right there, telling them whom of their reps need to GO next spring in their primaries.
Ryan set the trap he fell into, and DJT will ask Americans to pressure their reps to replace him.
“In principle the FC was 100% right but taking the long view they should not have blocked it in the end.”
I think the long view is that health services would have been even more expensive after passing Republican care and the voters would’ve massively voted against Republicans in the next few elections.
“Now all Trump needs is 30 Democrats to make them irrelevant again. And thats what is likely to happen.”
Seems like it. Trump’s tweet this morning makes me think that’s where he’s heading. The Freedom Caucus may have won the battle, but we shouldn’t be surprised if they lose the war.
When they start work on a repeal bill I might start to believe what you are saying.
I agree the current bill wasn’t good.
I also think the Freedom Caucus will never let O-care go until it fails on it’s own at which point they will tell us single payer is the only hope.
Well, Trump isn’t Supermam. But why I have faith in his leadership in that he doesn’t give up on getting to where he wants to go. I don’t believe for a sec he is just going to walk away from this.
