Former Democratic U.S. Vice President Joe Biden said on Sunday in one of his first major speeches since leaving office this year that he would have liked to have been the U.S. president who ended cancer as we know it.
Biden, whose son Beau died from brain cancer in 2015, delivered an emotional speech at the South by Southwest technology summit in Austin, Texas, about continuing the work he led under former Democratic President Barack Obama in the so-called Cancer Moonshot, an initiative aimed at speeding up research into new cancer therapies.
He spoke of the need for prevention, research collaboration and big data to battle cancer.
Biden did not mention U.S. Republican President Donald Trump by name, but said in the speech before several thousand people he was willing to work with the current administration on the fight against cancer, which kills an estimated 600,000 Americans a year. The only bipartisan thing left in America is the fight against cancer, he said.

Yeah and I wanted to be the guy that beat Babe Ruth’s HR record, but I grew up.
And Al Gore invented the internet.
Biden couldn’t cure the common cold.
Aside from the fact that he’s not research doctor material.
The democRATs hate the drug companies and hinder them at every step. They have used the FDA to hinder drug development and to make development very expensive.
He would have surely targeted breast cancer. Hands on.
In a sense, Obama DID come mighty close to ending the cancer on America which is the Democrat Party
Is that what Presidents do? I’m embarrassed I didn’t know that.
The cancer of the left killed upwards of a hundred million people last century.
He could have been the president that CONTINUED MY ACID RE-FLUX!!
Biden says some odd things. But I’d give him a pass on this one. He’s hurting, that’s for sure.
The only bipartisan thing left in America is the fight against cancer, ...
If he’s talking about congress, he left out robbing us blind :)
Maybe he should have settled for ending creepiness.
Something’s not quite right as he hugs people, especially females. It’s one thing to give a simple hug or handshake, but yet another to be as “touchy feely” as he gets.
I remember one picture, which has been posted here a number of times, in which he puts his hand on the leg of a big burly beefy policeman, as they are sitting next to each other at some event.
And another where he looked to be just about mauling someone’s “tweenage” daughter at some event.
Sadly, he might be right (for the first time in his odd life).
Dems and GOPers are pretty much split on family values, law and order, border security, a strict division between science and politics, hard work and personal responsibility versus gimmie, and gender-specific-potties.
Nobody likes the specter of cancer, so, okay, we can agree that it's bad.
Way to go, Slow Joe.

Me, too. People on this thread is kicking him in the most sensitive spot a human can have: the loss of a child.
He has a tough time expressing his thoughts. Let’s give him the benefit of the doubt on this one and read it as “I wish I could have been instrumental in finding the cure for cancer so others won’t suffer as I have.”
Really, folks.
Sorry, Biden, you missed it. Trump may very well be the President that ends cancer.
That cancer being the democrat party and it’s slow cancerous death to America.
Well with his intellect and experience, he can still end cancer as we know it. Just not as president. I’m sure the Nobel Committee will overlook his not being president (unless he runs against Trump...)
Perhaps mr Biden can get back the 7 Trillion Dollars his boss stole from us. That was promised for those “shovel ready jobs” that Obama was later forced to admit didn’t exist. Then Biden could cure cancer and refund the rest of our money back to us taxpayers too.
Or the rooster that caused the sun to rise.
