Going To DC This Summer (Vanity)
FreeRepublic ^ | 3/3/2017 | Me

Posted on 03/03/2017 5:19:27 PM PST by RushIsMyTeddyBear

Will be taking a 4-day trip to DC this summer. Any recommendations on what to see and where to eat? We lucked up on a good hotel (normally $600 a night for $100 two blocks from the Whitehouse.) Have already contacted our Senator about getting approval to tour.

I'll sit back and enjoy (while writing things down.) Also tell me what to avoid.

Thanks!

You know, I didn’t know that (Taft Memorial).

My dad was stationed at the Navy Yard back in the early sixties...we used to go into the grass around the Washington Monument every 4th of July, picnic basket, blankets...wonderful memories.

When we first came in 1964, my mom and I used to picnic on the Monument grounds every day.

I get the same ‘feelings’ about places.....which is why I didn’t want to visit the WH earlier.

We considered buying a house at one time. I walked in and it was giving me the creeps. Several months later....a house fire from bad wiring....tree topppled on house. Then another. Couple moved out.

The little yellow church, President’s church, right across the street from Lafayette Park is a must visit.

I attended a service there in 1969. However, be forwarned--it's an Episcopalian church, and it's in DC, so the sermons will not likely reflect the viewpoint of John Hagee or Franklin Graham.

So, Rush, are we helping or confusing you?! Four days isn’t much time to fit it all in.

I don’t know if anyone has mentioned the Jefferson Memorial and Tidal Basin yet. When I was a kid you could paddle boat...don’t know if they still do that.

I know what you’re talking about dude. Worked on the second season of Ghost Adventures. There are just places that give off a bad vibe. Did the fire start when you turned on the TV and obamatard was speaking?

You can still go in around lunch time and pray by yourself. My experience has been that it is pretty empty most of the time. I’d personally never attend a service there. I work about two blocks from the church.

Yeah but they do still have some very good restaurants in Dupont Circle. The National Zoo is another good place, but I was thinking more along places that have historical meaning. After a few visits to D.C. perhaps the zoo might be entertaining. But I think actually seeing the Declaration & Independence & Bill of Rights is more gratifying then even seeing a Panda, even as cute as they are. 8>)

It's also interesting visiting Embassy Row, at least living there when I did it was to me.

National Cathedral nice, but not convenient to get to.

I used to work directly across the street from the Dupont Circle red line. Dupont Circle has long had a gay influence. My brother was gay and he lived on Church street near Dupont. Some nice specialty shops there, but the circle, itself is kinda seedy, as are most parks. Even Meridian Hill Park, also known as Malcolm X Park, is rather seedy...lots of faded glory there.

Yeah I had a friend that lived right across the street from it. So I saw it often. 8>) Nice grounds too.

Go to the Forger’s Museum, check out the kenyan barry soetoro’s forged birth certificate and forged selective service card.
