Dr. Mary Bourke from Trinity College Dublin have discovered a patch of land in an ancient valley in Mars Lucaya Crater that appears to have held water in the not-too-distant past, making it a prime target to search for past life forms on the Red Planet. Signs of water past and present pop up everywhere on Mars from now-dry, wriggly riverbeds snaking across arid plains to water ice exposed at the poles during the Martian summer.

On Earth, desert dune fields are periodically flooded by water in areas of fluctuating groundwater, and where lakes, rivers and coasts are found in proximity, said Bourke. These periodic floods leave tell-tale patterns behind them. Once the material had been cemented, it hardens and remains behind as the dunes continue to migrate downwind.
Bourke and colleague Prof. Heather Viles, from the University of Oxford, examined close up images of Mars taken with the Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter (MRO) and experienced a flash of insight: You can imagine our excitement when we scanned satellite images of an area on Mars and saw this same patterned calling card, suggesting that water had been present in the relatively recent past.
Bourke examined similar arcuate striations exposed on the surface between dunes, indications of fluctuating levels of salty groundwater during a time when dunes were actively migrating down the valley.
So where did the water come from to create the striations in the crater valley? Bourke and Viles propose that water may have been released by the impact that formed Lucaya Crater especially if the target area was rich in ice.

So where did the water come from to create the striations in the crater valley?>>>>>>>>>>>>
And more importantly, where did the water go?
Is there a substrate water bearing series of desert aquifers on Mars, much like Libya had sourced in its Great Man Made River project?
Perhaps it was moved to earth before mars was slammed with meteor storms..like world creating embryonic fluid...
And another planet is discovered where the inhabitants blew off their atmosphere in a global thermonuclear war...
well its totally obvious water was once there. my question is how, after so long, haven’t these areas been wind eroded? the crater is protected naturally but not the flat lands... space view of river exempt...
It is obvious that the water on Mars rolled off of that
spherical ball (with no gravity there to hold it in place)
and came to rest on the stable flat plane of the Earth.
The water stays confined on Earth because it is frozen
around the edges (we have photographic proof of this.)
Pray that the elephants standing on the turtle’s back
do not get too thirsty.
We should spend a couple trillion to study the feasibility of your theory/S
Disregard the know nothin’ posts. This question about desert aquifers on Mars is important.
We need a safe haven where we can send Woof Bitcher and the entire CNN crew and the rest of the lefty MSM.
Libya discovered the secret deep aquifer of Libya’s southern desert. Maybe ground penetrating radar ,might show some similar aquifers on Mars.
Lol
Maybe it rained? Did that here the other day.
I’m still going at it with our friend on the flat earth thread, but I’ve really got to stop. Every exchange illuminates another dusty corner of his mind, which is scary to behold.
It depicted a Lunar-lander type of vehicle reaching it's probe into one of those outside boxes marked "ICE" while an alien mom and pop, sitting on the porch of their country store, watch with a "Whut the Hale" expression.
The cut line said something like "NASA finds water on Mars!"
One faintly along that line is
I think it was one of Sitchin's books that claimed Mars lost its water in the planetary collisons when Niburu came in and played billiards with the planets in its path.
"...but you think it's ok to abort a six-week-old fetus because it's 'just a clump of cells'..."
"...you might be a liberal."
(I hasten to add that this is not directed at you!)

Vallis Marinaris. 3 million cubic miles of excavated material. It’s not alluvial erosion. Hebes Canyon not created by water.
The whole surface of Mars is arc welded on a gargantuan scale. I believe this interpretation is true, and I have done a lot of geology.
Created by a cosmic plasma discharge. What was (were) the other charged body(ies).
In our own geology, ciontinentak drift in 1965 was controversial. Now in exogeology we see that gargantuan plasma arcs are possible, but what other close approaches of other planetoids or planets would pass close enough to Mars in a near miss to generate such plasma arc. It thinned the crust of the whole northern hemisphere, like an apple peeler.
But such plasma arcs would also denude the planet of water and atmosphere, eh?
I wonder what Tesla would say!
I remember that well, for some reason - probably because it was in the same league as the "there are no meteorites" by French scientists way back when.
Some newscaster was reporting that (snicker) a scientist claimed that the continents floated on something called a tectonic plate. The whole tone was that of a "Can you believe this crap?" vein.
