Tony Romo will make his 2016 debut on the first day of 2017.
Romo, who has missed the entire season after suffering a back injury in the preseason and then being demoted in favor of Dak Prescott, is expected to play on Sunday, January 1, against the Eagles, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.
That appears to be a change in plans for the Cowboys, who had previously indicated that they wouldnt risk an injury to Romo in a meaningless game and would turn to Mark Sanchez if they decided to give Prescott some rest in the regular season finale.
The Cowboys may want to make sure Romo isnt too rusty in case they need him in the playoffs. Prescott is the unquestioned starter, but if he were to get hurt in the postseason, theyd turn to Romo to try to guide them to the Super Bowl.
The Cowboys may also want to show other teams that Romo can still play, in the hopes that they can trade him in the offseason.
Romos last regular-season game was Thanksgiving of 2015, when he threw three interceptions and suffered the second of his three recent serious injuries.
Like the “R’s,” Jones will snatch defeat from the jaws of victory once again.
I am sure there is a list of teams that want to go from the middle of the pack to 2nd tier who will be interested in Romo.
He did VERY good by stepping away and handing the team to Dak but he will always be known as a very good not quite elite QB. He has some good numbers but in crunch time he fades. Always.
Report: Cowboys plan to lose Monday. - fixed
People always bring up his season ending injuries, as if somehow it’s his fault.
Had he had proper front line protection, like Dak has had, then he would still be in the game...............
Bean counters running the business, or more to the point, owner running the football team.
Crazy.
It’s a meaningless game for them. The already have Top Seed in the play offs, Bye Week, home field advantage throughout, and the NFC East title..............
If his front line protects him like they have DAK, then he’ll be safe................
This has the word “stupid” pasted all over every side of the package.
Just another reason to #BoycottNFL
Jerry’s an idiot. Plain and simple.

I regard him as a third-rate quarterback who has displayed rare flashes of adequacy.
I can’t for the life of me fathom why the Cowboys have stayed with him for so long.
>>Had he had proper front line protection, like Dak has had, then he would still be in the game...<<
And still below top tier.

I wouldn’t even play Dak, even if he is gunning for the record books. Let Sanchez start and Romo clean up.
>>Jerrys an idiot. Plain and simple.<<
Why? This is exactly what they need to do. Romo is backup and needs some reps in case Dak goes down (hope not).
I guess he is old now. But, I always thought of him as the young gun with a minimal college background who broke into the lineup. Then again, he broke in by outshining Drew Bledsoe at the end of Drew's career, and that was... practically last-century.
Romo will be playing the backup bitch to Dak.
They have Mark Sanchez as a back-up. . . . I guess you're right they are planning on losing.
Jerry needs to hire a GM, and spend his days on the ranch or something.
Love the time when they played the Vikings and Favre was kicking their asses and Jones desperately went to the sidelines grabbing a clipboard. LOL
It’s the “Danny White” curse.
It’s all about increasing Romo’s trade value.
