About half the world's population is right-handed but has left-handed family members. Such right-handers have special neurological organization of language and thought.
This has implications for therapies and our understanding of the genetic bases for language.
Our brain imaging studies show that grammatical knowledge is represented differently if you have left-handers in your family. For example, when it comes to language, everyones brain responds to certain language tasks quickly.
But that response is much stronger in the brain's right hemisphere if you have left-handers in your family and stronger in the left hemisphere if you have no left-handers in your family

Interesting. I am the exact opposite. Lefty sports, rightie writing and food. Nearly Ambi with hand guns and rifles. But because I am left eye dominant, shooting a rifle right handed is more fatiguing. So while I an pretty near as good I don't do more than a couple of mags before the eye gets tired.
Want to have some fun? Try eating with chopsticks using your right hand. In my case the left. It's a hoot.
My smartie pants daughter lived in Korea for a year and can use chopsticks with both hands. She learned to do it to show off for her Korean friends. LOL
Happened to my daughter in the police academy during live fire practice. Couldn’t do anything but keep shooting or risk getting shot.
You’re ambidextrous?
= = =
ambidextrous privilege.
Yes.
me too. Bro was leftie, a gifted athlete.
Best palis a leftie, hubby is dyslexic.
Who cares?
If I just think of her bouncing on the right leg she turns CCW if on the left leg she turns CW. She’s bi directional at my will. That is cool. I’m right handed though.
I shoot right handed using my left eye (sucks) I play guitar, I play by ear and pick up the chords and play the melody and accompaniment all in finger picking style but can’t sing and play at the same time.
I think I am Abby Normal.
Counter clockwise.
both
my grandmother told me she was left handed and the nuns tied her left hand behind her and made her a righty.
I can’t get the right side of my brain around that....
From the article regarding the man in the coffee beans:
“Doctors have concluded that, if you find the man in 3 seconds, then the Right half of your brain is better developed than most people.
If you find the man between 3 seconds and one minute, then your right Half of the brain is developed normally.
If you find the man between one minute and 3 minutes, then the right Half of your brain is functioning slowly and you need to Eat more protein.
If you have not found the man after 3 minutes, you’re a liberal.”. :>)
Found him in about 2 seconds.
I'm right handed, and whenever I try to write with my left hand it comes out as a mirror image of what is should be. I can write something with both hands at the same time and the left comes our as a mirror of the right.
I saw that done on TV years back (a show called "That's Incredible") so I tried it... and there it was. They said something like 5% of all people have that capability.
I think that the right handed mascara applicator is the worst. Most lefties always end up poking themselves in their ears with those things!
I used to be able to switch back and forth. Since I had cataract surgery, it’s always clockwise. :(
That is freaky. I’ve got the laptop sitting on a table beside me mirrored to the 50” flat screen across the room.
If I look at her on the big screen she’s spinning counter clockwise and if I look at her on the laptop screen she’s spinning clockwise.
“About half the world’s population is right-handed but has left-handed family members.”
Ummmmmmm, uhhhhhh, so the other half are left handed with right handed family members?
“I am left-handed writing and eating (anything that requires dexterity) and right handed in sports”
I’m a confused mess actually. Write left handed, Throw ball lefty. Bat righty. Cut w/scissors righty. Kick ball lefty. Play tennis righty (I used to drive my coach nuts as I would do my tennis exercises (bouncing ball with racket) lefty, then go out nnd play righty, lol). Eat lefty (I looked great in Europe where they don’t change utensil hands like we do here in U.S.). The list of confusion is endless. My brain must be a jumbled mess inside.
I have a better optical illusion, and it works every time. It works if you are 100% sober, and it works even when you totally know about it before and during. I have an open top 1966 landcruiserwith no doors, so 360 degrees of unobstructed view. I can turn off all lights including parking and reverse. So when camping on medium sized dry lake beds, after full darkness I simply drive a mile or two from camp with the lights off on the flats. Pick a random point and stop, start chatting, put the vehicle in reverse and start driving in circles to the left in the darkness. you can see the distant mountains go by in the dark. After a few minutes of this I ask the passengers what direction we are going, and even if they know for absolute certain we are going backwards to the left, their brains cannot reconcile it and see forward to the right no matter how hard they try. Even after decades of doing this for people, I still see it.
#ConfusedHandsMatter. I want my safe space and a pair of snowflake mittens.
Both.
