‘Die Hard’ Isn’t Your Typical Christmas Movie, But It’s The Best
KHITS 104.3 ^ | 12/21/16 | John Calhoun

Posted on 12/21/2016 11:51:47 AM PST by Sybeck1

McClane just arrived from New York to spend Christmas with his estranged wife Holly (Bonnie Bedelia) in Los Angeles. As he waits for her office Christmas party to break up, terrorists take over the building. The late Alan Rickman is superb as the terrorist leader Hans Gruber.

Billed as 40 Stories Of Sheer Adventure, the film does not disappoint. There’s plenty of action, along with humor and warm, fuzzy moments too.

Walter hill knew exactly what he was doing. And has said what his intentions were in interviews. It is not photographed in a straight forward manner. That’s by design. It has mythic undertones that were fully intended.

Sure he did. Don’t know why you’re always so hung up on declaring things that suck good but The Warriors sucks. Sorry dude, I suffered through it once, it was awful, I will never watch it again, my wife who got me to watch it admitted it wasn’t nearly as good as she remembered. You can blather all the silliness you want about abstract blah blah blah and it doesn’t change the simple fact that there is not one single frame of that movie worth the celluloid used to make it.

One of the finest soundtracks in the history of rock and roll soundtracks, and a few really inspired casting choices, wasted on a really stupid movie.

I have to agree with you there. The Blasters had songs in a couple of movies around that time.

Ever see Hill’s The Driver? It’s even MORE abstract. But It’s not really an outre opinion. The Warriors has a huge following.

Lots of crappy things have huge followings. In fact being a hunk of crap seems to be a necessary ingredient to having a huge following. As shown by The Rocky Horror Picture Show and Beyond the Valley of the Dolls.

But this following is not of the ‘so bad it’s good’ type. Fans of this film genuinely believe it’s good.

I’m kinda partial to, “The Long Kiss Goodnight,” during Christmas time.
Very underrated movie.

Or they’re just not willing to admit they like something that sucks. Really it’s OK to like something that sucks. I love the Tremors movies, I know they’re cheap lame ripoffs of Jaws, and they’re stupid, but I like them. The Warriors is not a good movie, period. I don’t care how many keyboards you wear out trying to defend it, it’s a giant stinking pile of #$%^ that should be forgotten and your defense of it makes me sad. Even you admit the dialog sucks. Guess what, if the dialog sucks the movie sucks.

A lot of the great Douglas Sirk films have bad scripts. ‘Imitation of Life’ say. It’s great because of the direction. It’s also OK to have a blind spot for certain good films. ;)

No you have a blind sport for certain TERRIBLE films, which you insist must be good because you like them. Which is a shame really, guilty pleasures are fun, but not if you can’t admit they’re guilty. You’re missing out on half the fun of watching bad movies.

Dude you’re in the critical minority here. It has a 98% score on RT.

RT for old movies gets weird because they have so few reviews. And it’s 89%, with not enough reviews for a “consensus”, and the 2 top critics they have scores from both call it rotten. I will leave you with their clip from Andrew Sarris:
If the movie is not as dangerous as its detractors claim, neither is it as glorious and memorable as some of its less discriminating admirers would have it.

And really, that’s IT. I’m not discussing this incredibly stupid F-ing movie EVER AGAIN. Don’t post to me about it, I don’t give a $#%^. It’s stupid, you admitted the dialog sucks, MOVE ON!

If you knew more of Sarris’ work you probably wouldn’t agree with him much at all. But check out the three hour extended cut of The Warriors. The dialogue is even dumber but hey... (that doesn’t really exist).

Ha! Glad I found this thread!

We watched it last night.

Didn’t the terrorist lobby guard who played Eddie look like Huey Lewis?

I thought it actually was, until I looked it up on IMDB!
