The early 1970s were a tough time in the lives of The Beatles. The band had dissolved among growing tensions between the musicians, and in 1970 they decided to go their separate ways and officially disbanded the most important group in modern music. By 1971, Paul McCartney found himself in one of the worst spots in his life, one that "he would look back on ... and tell everyone that he'd almost had a nervous breakdown."
It was during this time that relations between The Beatles were at the most volatile, and in 1971, John Lennon sent a scathing letter to his former bandmate and then-wife Linda McCartney. "I was reading your letter and wondering what middle aged cranky Beatle fan wrote it," Lennon's typed and hand-annotated message to McCartney reads.
"Do you really think most of today's art came about because of the Beatles?" Lennon wrote. "I don't believe you're that insane—Paul—do you believe that? When you stop believing it you might wake up! Didn't we always say we were part of the movement—not all of it?—Of course, we changed the world—but try and follow it through—GET OFF YOUR GOLD DISC AND FLY!"

Interesting. Nothing more than a kick in the ass for Paul, and a (probably) well-deserved trashing of the Eastman family.
I loved the Beatles music, but as I got older, I disliked Paul because he seemed like a self-glorifying control freak, and I disliked John because he was simply an a-hole to people.
I appreciate an entertainer who knows their place in the scheme of things, and can still be gracious to the people who give them their money. Lennon apparently had complete and utter contempt for people who forked over money for his product.

John Lennon was reportedly the last to give up on the Beatles and didn’t sign off on paperwork until the mid-70s.

All Lennon songs, and everyone better than any syrup McCartney ever thunk up.
Consider yourself flamed. I considered a scathing post detailing how you had failed mankind in your position but I just couldn't get motivated.
My wife and I saw McCartney at Desert Trip in Palm Springs last month.
What struck me, is the depth of the music catalog. No way is there time in an evening to get through it. Contrast to the Stones, Neil Young, Pink Floyd, Bob Dylan and the Who who also performed.
For the John Lennon parts, Neil Young stepped in. Magical.
LM have the most prolific portfolio, but George is the best in my mind.
Ah, John Lennon was a HUGE part of the Beatles and wrote and co wrote MANY MANY great songs.
I didn’t turn to him for my religious beliefs, just like you dont care about the ULTRA left wing views of paul.
I liked Lennon’s and Paul’s songs after they broke up, BUT NEITHER CAME TO CLOSE to the Beatles catalog.
They were geniuses together.
Incredible string of albums from Rubber Soul to Abbey Road. “All Things Must Pass” showed that they could have gotten quite a bit of good material out of Harrison, too, if they’d stayed together. I remember seeing some film documentaries of Lennon and Harrison taken shortly after the breakup - the bitterness and anger was very real. These guys had been so close for so long - it seemed very much like the breakup of a marriage.
MCCartney was always the delusional one...
