Repudiate Republican Governor Snyder for refusing to endorse Neutralize and possibly indirectly recruit Michael Moore and his ilk Address the human suffering Fix the water system Bring jobs
The World's eyes would be on Flint
Sorry plenty of places don’t have any of these ‘infrastructure’ problems - the ones that do have been Dem owned and operated for decades and the chickens are coming home to roost.
Let them figure out they need to change their governance. Why should those who were frugal in their own neighborhoods have to pay for these idiots mistake.
And pleeeeeez be honest about the lead in peoples' systems.
I don’t disagree with your general philosophy. The federal government should not come to the aid of every municipality that screws up. Pension fund underfunded? Tough shut. Should have planned ahead. Bridge out? Find another way there. Fine.
In this instance of Flint, though, we are talking about drinking water. A necessity. This is a real chance to show off Trump’s project management skills, heal the racial divide caused by the Liberals, and help keep Michigan a red state.
only after the city council is gutted
“I cant believe this was even posted.”
On so many levels....
BS....They changed the water system without thinking of the consequences. Totally political....M O N E Y....
Trump can only offer Flint assistance and enact executive orders that effect federal employees of the state. He has no jurisdiction to just go in and do things without being invited to do so by the Governor of the state and the Mayor of the city. This idea that Presidents can do whatever they want on local levels is childish and not even legal. And actually, a frightening thought.
I’ve dealt with the Army Corps of Engineers. They are not the geniuses you think they are.
Trump could develop a high-profile template for his inner-city renewal plans by rolling it out in Flint.
I am so surprised at many of the myopic posts on this thread that indicate a low level of understanding on this strategic opportunity
The tantalizing aspect is that he could actually draw Moore, Sanders et al in as allies on this as he build consensus across the nation.
No. You get more of what you subsidize. Trump’s election was for nothing if the federal government continues to be the savior of first resort.
This really staggers my imagination.
‘Lead’ a leftist, EPA, trial lawyer SH!T COVERED BATON used to push the marxist agenda and you want Trump to pick that up and run with it?
In general, I see Flint’s water as (1) a small issue, and (2) a local rather than federal issue. However, I still agree with you. Trump can for a relatively modest amount of money fix a real problem, created by democrats, that is tied up in litigation. It is more important for him to appoint originalist justices to the Supreme Court (preferably age 40-45, 50 at most), repeal Obamacare, and enforce immigration law while he builds the wall.
Trump can and should do all that, but he can also reward Michigan, which voted for him, and keep his promise on helping the cities. Philosophically, this is like a FEMA response to a hurricane - FedGov going outside its proper range of responsibilities to deal with a problem beyond the capabilities of the state and local government.
I’m with you - fix Flint’s water (not through massive spending to connected and corrupt companies, but by having Seabees/Corps of Engineers/whatever dig up the lines so that pipefitters/plumbers/machinists contracted to work at a reasonable rate on just the pipes not the digging can replace the lead service lines between the lead-free main water lines and the lead-free home plumbing with new lead-free service lines). 20,000 homes, more or less have lead or unknown service lines. Dig them all up, systematically, keep good records, and replace the ones with lead or perhaps just all of them.
Yes, you make many good points....but my thinking is not in the details, but in the symbolic, strategic plan that Trump can make, which may involve all kinds of things including helping the community to make its own decisions, etc etc...the main point is the symbolism that will reassure and excite people about following Trump’s lead in all other cities.
My wife and I have driven Fords since the early 1980s, but they’re on my crap list now.
You’re probably correct - it would be great PR. Beat the left at their own game by framing this as a rescue of a Democrat-owned AA plantation.
Turn it over to private enterprise. Once they assess correctly what is the problem then come up with a solution, have them fix it and THEN bill the governments who should have fixed (never let it happen) in the first place. Keep the government out of it. Remember rebuilding the interstate in California after the earthquake? Done in months instead of years.
Agreed, and you are right. I hope Trump will pick up this suggestion and run with it.
Take Flint away from the libs by solving the problems. After that what do they have left?
Exactly. Baltimore, Detroit, and many other cities the democrats and unions killed will take notice.
