VANITY: YUUUUUUUUGE Early Voting Line in Broward County
Self | October 24, 2016 | PJ-Comix

(Note: I posted this on another thread about early voting in Florida but I think it needs a thread of its own.)

................................

Okay, I am now back from early voting at the Broward Country Library Tamarac Branch and I have some SHOCKING news.....

First of all I did NOT vote. Actually, as you shall see, this is GOOD news. The reason why I did NOT vote is that the line was BY FAR the largest I have ever seen it for early voting at this location. It was so large that it went thru the library and snaked out almost to the back door. I estimated the wait time to be around 2 hours. Maybe longer.

I have early voted at this same location several times before and the lines were NEVER close to being this long. In off year elections, the wait time is always zero to less than 5 minutes. In presidential elections, always less than 15 to 20 minutes. I didn't feel like waiting a couple of hours on that looooooong line especially since I didn't bring my cellphone headphones to listen to internet radio while waiting.

An elections official told me there were few people in the line when it opened at 7 A.M. and for about the first half hour so tomorrow I will be there at 7 to vote.

The GOOD NEWS is that any first time voting millennial who is sort of for Hillary will be bummed out waiting for over an hour on that looooooong line. I actually didn't spot anybody on that line that would even fit into that age group. Imagine the shock of a first time voter millennial seeing that line and realizing he/she would have to invest a couple hours waiting.

Well, tomorrow I will be there right at opening time at 7 AM to vote. But just in case, I will be bringing my headphones.

That is what I was thinking...so its really a matter of whether the early voting is at the same levels as last time for Obama or not. I thought the enthusiasm for Hellary was less, but does that apply to the demographics here? (I tried to ask that in the most PC/non-racist way I could think of)

I’m sure most of the votes on the line I saw goes for Crooked but the point is the percentage is probably going to be brought down by the number of motivated Trump supporters which is why that line was so loooooong. The longest I have ever seen for early voting at that location.

Yes, and those motivated Trump supporters could very well be new voters, not just the same group of people that voted Romney.

What town is Broward county?

Broward County is where we had the infamous "hanging chads" recount mess during Bush/Gore 2000.

I don't like early voting. It gives too many opportunities for fraud.

Students voting at their campus address, then again at home address.

People still being registered in districts even though they moved years ago, then going back to vote in every district they've ever lived in in the last 20 years.

People voting the names of dead people, or people they know have moved out of state.

One big reason why Dems don't like requiring a driver's license to vote, is because you only get one. If you move, you have to turn in the one for your old address before they will issue you one for your new address.

A tweet observation from NC early voting:

Absolutely no line for EarlyVoting @ downtown #Raleigh site today. Last week, 1-hour wait same time, same place pic.twitter.com/8UMsPw8om5— Frank Hill (@Telemachus111) October 24, 2016

Exactly. Plus, all the people I work with who voted Hillary and said they waited in line for hours. They are geeked about stopping Trump.

Look, I’m only stating facts. Broward is a leftist stronghold that regularly votes in Debbie nutjob schultz. I live here and know the dynamics. We do not want high turnout in Broward. That is a fact with this State. Is it possible that these are Democrats voting for Trump or an over representation of the significantly smaller pool (by over 100k voters) of republicans in Broward. Yeah, possible but certainly unlikely. This is Democrat ground zero in the State of Florida. Acknowledging reality and facts is not the same as panicking.

I really do not kow whether that is good or bad for us “Trumpsters”. Broward county is the worst cesspool of Democrat vermin in the entire state of Florida. However...that may not be the case this year!!! You really need to get a beakdown of those folks who were waiting in line to vote, in order to get a better picture of who they are. but....even that is not enough to tell you effectively how the vote is going. The polls are dead wrong, this year, because the voting public party affilation may not mean much this year. I suspect few Republicans will vote for Clinton, but...many Democrats will be voting for Donald J. Trump!!!

You can take great heart, Trumpsters, because if the rest of Florida votes this heavily....i predict Trump will carry Florida, with more then a 500,000 vote margin. Looking at the Trump rally in Naples yesterday with over 12,000 folks attending...i can assure you that from Tampa, south to Sarasota & on to Naples, the Florida west coast will be going big time for Donald J. Trump. Collier county will give DJT 70% or more of its vote!!!

My gut instinct is to say Broward has many Jewish voters, that always vote Democrat. I am, however, not convinced that is the case this year, for many different reasons...keep your fingers crossed. If Clinton does not come out of Broward or Palm Beach Counties with a massive vote lead...Trump will easily win Florida. My prediction remains were it was: Trump easily carries, Texas, Florida, Ohio, Pennsylvania & North Carolina & with those states and others he wins the POTUS race...hands down!!! My wife and I have already cast our mail-in votes for DJT. All eleven members of our immediate family are trumpsters and will vote for DJT. They (votes) have been received and credited to DJT. Go Donald j. Trump!!! Stay strong, good people...screw the Clinton/Obama hate Trump media!!! Vote for DJT!!! We have a country to save!!!

I was responding to a post on the past history of voting in Broward County. Yes, I know that neither Romney nor Obama are on the ballot. That doesn’t change the fact that Broward County is a Dem stronghold. They will vote for Hillary over Trump. The big questions are turnout and how many Dems will flip for Trump.

I'm guessing, (if I'm wrong, feel free to correct me) that the original poster was saying that this is good news because this particular polling place is in a Republican/Conservative leaning part of Broward County. I lived for four years in the Washington, DC suburbs which tended to vote democrat by a 70/30 margin, but even in the bluest of the blue areas like that there can be found conservative enclaves that vote as "red" as rural Texas...

I don’t know if still true, but the western and northwestern sections of Broward County (Tamarac, Lauderhill, Sunrise, Lauderdale Lakes, some parts of Plantation ) were once heavily populated with older Jewish people from the northeast, many of them retired blue collar and union workers. They were solidly, reliably democrat voters. Many of those have been replaced by Caribbean immigrants, but with essentially the same voting pattern.

I’m not denying the fact it is a leftist stronghold - but until we have the facts about who is voting, a bit of conjecture about a busy line is utterly meaningless.

I recall election after election, report after report - big lines and lots of signs for the Rs - it all amounts to nothing.

My point is, people shouldn’t get hopes up or down at this point. Far too much of that going on, though that isn’t a point aimed at you.

I don't understand the appeal of voting early. I always liked the tradition of voting on the actual day. Lines on Election Day don't bother me. It's part of the experience. I feel like I am part of things.

If I voted early, I'd always be wondering if my vote actually got counted. Maybe that's just me. But I feel more comfortable about my vote counting properly by showing up on the day itself.

That said, I read the other "concern troll" replies about Broward being a heavily Democratic county and therefore this must be bad news for Trump.

Not so fast, I say. There was still a significant percentage of Republican votes there in 2012. How do we know that a larger than normal percentage of Republicans didn't show up because they are motivated. How do we know that there are not a lot of "first time" or "only once in a while" voters in those lines, who are also motivated to vote for Trump.

I'm not saying it's one way or the other. Without doing some kind of "exit" polling, we can only speculate what this means.

Also, if things were the opposite and there was actually a low turnout there this morning, than I'm sure the concern trolls would have a field day with that as well. They would also be saying that this is "bad for Trump" because nobody seems to be motivated.

You just can't win with the concern trolls. They are going to see the negative side of everything.

I'll end with this thought. A lot of registered Democrats may just pull the lever for Trump this year. Just because they are not changing their registration does not necessarily mean they are voting for Crooked Hillary. They will probably see this as a "one-off" Republican vote and then vote Democrat down ticket as they normally do. What should help Trump with Democrats is that the elite Republicans hate him. This will make the medicine go down much better. I know that if we were stuck with Jeb Bush and the Democrats had somebody running as a populist who was outside the establishment, I'd likely vote for the Dem as well. Having a chance at electing a non-politician as president is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity that we will likely never see again.

Nope. Tamarac is close to 70% democrat. It is a dem stronghold in Broward. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but that is reality for this State

Call me old fashioned, but I believe that one votes on the 2nd Tuesday in November in person.

Not old fashioned, just mis-informed.

Election day is the first Tuesday AFTER the first Monday of November.

Are you backed up? Is that why you’re grouchy this morning.

Who’s a nasty grouchy curmudgeon this morning? :)

All you to say was that they were new voters.

But being nasty is an art form on this board.

Go eat some fiber.
