In light of today's widespread Internet outages, we should discuss contingency plans for FR availability, news updates and emergency communications.
Please share what ham amateur radio shortwave frequencies to monitor for emergencies and news updates, as well as practical ham email on the HF and VHF bands.

All, one of the things we really need to know is where to tune into RELIABLE International and National news sources.
Mainstream media AM / FM sources are not entirely trustworthy as we’ve come to learn from wikileaks and election conduct.
BBC? meh
Are there trustworthy constitutionally minded news sources when things go out?
Oath keepers have a shortwave broadcast?
Not looking for Coast-to-coast rumor mill broadcasts.
Just something like a shortwave broadcast version of Matt Drudge, for example, to stay informed.

Is there any encryption techniques available for ham radios? Of course. That said, automated encryption requires some sophisticated hardware. Person to Person encryption is fairly straight forward if you use a one-time pad. Of course that requires some planning.
