About 20 wild boars have destroyed more than half a dozen lawns, neighbors say
Front yards are being ripped up in a San Jose neighborhood, and while residents are well aware of who the culprits are, there's very little they can do.
The torn-up lawns are the work of wild pigs on a feeding frenzy, residents said. They strike in the middle of the night, digging up lawns in the Evergreen neighborhood of South San Jose.
"They came in and ... I saw a huge pack of them, and they were effectively ripping up the sod," resident Rod Murchison said.
Murchison and his neighbors said there are about 20 of the wild boars, and they have destroyed more than half a dozen lawns in the neighborhood over the past week.
Kevin McFatridge lives up the street from Murchison. His front lawn looks like a war zone. The pigs even took out his geranium plants.
"We can handle a little patch here or there, but our entire lawn is now gone, and that's very frustrating," McFatridge said.
Murchison believes the pigs came from the ranchland across the street from his home. He said he had a similar problem about 10 years ago but it stopped after neighbors got together to secure a fence. Murchison even put up a device that shines a red light, simulating a pig predator. He hopes it will be enough to keep the hungry grub hunters away.
Murchison's 10-year-old daughter Katie built two fairy houses in the front yard. She's so worried about the pigs, she put up a warning.
"I put up the sign so the fairies would know not to come at night because the pigs might come," Katie said.
In San Fransisco?
No, San Jose. 50 miles apart, completely different.
Has it occurred to anyone to resettle the pigs in Afghanistan or Iraq? Or even in the Palestinian section of Israel?
I hope they don’t take over here in California the way they have almost taken over in Texas. Texans can shoot as many as they want and so have at least somewhat controlled their numbers. No way that’ll be allowed in California. We’ll be overrun with the damned things.
Heck with that. Use a crossbow and arrows. Right between the eyes, no silencer needed.
How long does it take to roast one of those boars?
So what’s the law in CA on feral hogs?
In Missouri you used to see signs that said, “Report Feral Hogs”. Now the signs say, “Shoot Feral Hogs”.
People don’t realize how DEADLY a creature a feral hog is.
String pie plates or other deterrents along the property line. An electric fence works. So does a shot gun but guess that wouldn’t go over well in the city.
You better be a good shot with that crossbow. If you’re not your family will have to cut open the hogs to find your remains. I’m not exaggerating.
Keeps the muzzies away.
For example, wild boar killed at Henry Coe Park State Park, were found to be stuffed full of acorns. That's bad for oaks, and animals that eat acorns.
Because they don’t let you anyone hunt them anymore. They just keep breeding
It would have to be a side shot or if the boar had its head down right behind the head. As for roasting, you have to butcher it first. You have the hindquarters which is great eating, then the belly part where the bacon is ... you need a chart to figure it all out. As for roasting, dig a pit, get the fire going and slow cook it for eighteen hours.
I actually enjoyed that movie.
But on the plus side, no if word gets out, no muzzies will want to live in your state.
Lucky neighborhood — the pigs will keep the muzzies away.
PS: Can’t shoot them between the eyes since their heads are somewhat curved and the bolt will just glance off. I’ve seen head shots with a slug that glanced off.
