What they did was inconvenienced their customers at the time to save a few bucks. It wasn’t “innovation” it was just shaving a few dollars on a machine.
USB drives, cloud storage, CD/DVD Recordable disks, were still going to be invented and improved regardless what Apple did. The iMac was not even 1% of the market at that time so it forced nothing because it was nothing.

First, any smartphone that does not have a headphone jack, is a deal breaker. I have pre-bluetooth stereo equipment.
When I want to listen closely to a telephone conversation, I use headphones. I was not born with the necessary bone structure needed to cradle the phone to my ear, while not using my hands.
I don’t care for wireless headphones of any design. They would compete with my V.A.-supplied earpieces to hear my beloved’s voice.
