Abu Muhammad al-Adnani, one of Islamic States longest-serving and most prominent leaders, has been killed in Syria, the groups Amaq news agency reported.
The jihadi groups spokesman was killed while surveying the operations to repel the military campaigns against Aleppo, Amaq said on Tuesday. Isis holds territory in the province of Aleppo, but not in the city itself where rebels are fighting Syrian government forces.
Amaq did not say how Adnani died. The Pentagons press secretary Peter Cook said coalition forces had conducted an airstrike in the town of al-Bab in Aleppo province on Tuesday targeting Adnani, but did not say whether he had been killed. The attack was on a vehicle in the town of al-Bab in Aleppo province but the official declined to say whether Adnani was killed.
The death is a major blow to Isis. Drone strikes and attrition by other means have cut deep into the senior ranks of the organisation, and very few of the original leadership remain alive.
Senior leaders are difficult to replace, even if some capable commanders remain, and this latest loss underlines the degree to which Isis has been put under pressure in recent months. The group is losing territory, financial resources and key personnel.

Why is it ALWAYS some “key leader” or another??? Why not one or two thousand of the “fighters”?? Then we would HAVE something.
We knew this from gang work a hundred years ago. Cut off the head and someone takes it’s place. killing terrorist leaders only brings new leadership. Your comment about killing thousands of soldiers is well taken. Obama uses these “high profile” killings to show us how tough he is.
thanks!
Hey, Abdul....Achmed is dead. You’re the new number two. Put on this red shirt.
You know, I remember all those top al Qaeda kills, and yet they kept on going. Sorry, but saying those words does not sound convincing to me.
