My most famous or influential people include Red Skelton, B. B. King, Tim Allen at a party, and Tom Gale, The designer and collaborator with Bob Lutz on the Dodge Viper and variants.
Woody Hayes
Several times over the years
Holy cow.
Oh yes.
John Boehner.
Over the years I’m met a great many unknowns, wonderful people who go through life anonymously.
I’ve also had the distinction of meeting three of the most despicable people on the planet.
Ted Bundy - serial murderer
I had a lib girlfriend who worked for the Suicide hotline in Seattle during the 70’s. It was through her that I had a one-time chance encounter with Bundy.
Gary Ridgway - The Green River Killer
We worked at Kenworth Truck Co at the same time. I’ve actually been to his house on one occasion.
Edward Harvey Stokes - necrophiliac and serial rapist
I went to school with Eddie. He was a weird kid then only got worse. I recall one time when he tried to recruit kids to have a sleepover at his fathers mortuary. “It’ll be fun” he said.
There was a thread on him years ago: http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/1119098/posts
See my post # 149.
“I sat next to Cher at the China Club in Manhattan...”
My condolences. She’s one of the most stuck up, arrogant people I’ve ever had the misfortune of meeting.
I’ve met quite a few celebrities. Most of them tend to be really decent people. Not Cher.
I’ve met all the current members of Bob Seger’s Silver Bullet Band minus Seger, who does not do the Meet & Greets these days. All of them were great & very social. Met Newt Gingrich & it went sideways & ugly real quick. Worked for former U.S. Senator Gordon Humphrey of NH....he’s difficult & odd.
Met Bob & Libby Dole....Libby was fantastic. Met California governor Jerry Brown back in the late 70s when he was interesting at a college function. Had a quick affair in the 80s with a well-known TV actress. Shared a table for a charity event with Roger Rocket Clemens back in the 80s
Your story about Bundy got me thinking. I know someone else who got away from him. So lucky. Anyway I decided to come up with a list.
I’ve known a few political figures but some of their names are probably not easily recognized. These might be recognized
Noam Chomsky - no comment
Michael Dukakis - ran for president
Bill Weld - running for president
Bill Moyers was fairly important as chief of staff years ago and later on television.
Mike O’Callaghan who I knew in D.C. He was governor of Nevada and later they named the bridge by the Hoover Dam after him.
Some entertainers
Gene Shallot - very smart and entertaining
Ric Ocasek (The Cars) wears very tight black leather pants
Aerosmith guitar guy - can’t remember his name at the moment. Lots of fun. Lots.
Junior Walker (of the All Stars) One of the best saxophonists ever
Mike Barnacle - who was not happy I didn’t know who he was
Some athlete guys
Nick Buonaconti - the Dolphins?
Joe Sciabelli - LA Rams?
Lonnie Saunders - announcer and prior to that the Redskins
Tommy Heinsohn - now an announcer
Mugssey Bogues - basketball
Business types - quite a few although a lot of the names would not be recognizable. One would be, Jeff Skilling.
All of them were interesting, very interesting. Two stand out as real gentlemen although all of them were gentlemen. One is Mike O’Callaghan - truly a very good man. He was a Marine and he lost a leg in combat. Also, Jeff Skilling. He is a kind and very considerate man - no matter what the media says. Really smart too.
hmmm...it looks like I’ve only met famous men. I like women, just don’t meet many- although three of my girlfriends married football players - Philadelphia Eagles, Green Bay Packers, and New England Patriots.
This has been an interesting thread. Aren’t we bless to have met good people. And think of all those we have met who are wonderful and they’re not featured in the media.
I just remembered - I met the Atlanta Falcons basketball team one night. Does that count? I didn’t get to know them, I just got on the elevator and there were about 8 - 10 of the tallest black guys. Without thinking blurted out “what is this, a basketball team?” They all nodded yes. Making it worse, I asked “what are you doing here” and they said we just had a game tonight. I said, “Great - did you win?” They said “no”. Good grief. I hit the button on the elevator (yes, it was a hotel) and got out on the next floor. That’s what happens when you profile tall guys.
BTW there were two gals in the elevator who were ready to kill me if I spoke with any of the guys anymore. I was out of there!
Good thing along came Fibber McGee to make me feel better! (Of Fibber McGee and Molly fame-----old time fame)
I just remembered - I met the Atlanta Falcons basketball team one night. Does that count?
No because the Atlanta Falcons Basketball team is a Football team.
It's the Hawks =)
Oh I didn’t have the Bundy story, that was someone else.... harrowing tale for sure!!
Yes, it is a most interesting thread.... I keep thinking of more famous and semi-famous people with whom I have crossed paths for a little bit, though none I know well. There are some at high levels of the social media and software world I’ve known in an earlier life, and some near the top of the rock/mountain climbing world..... maybe I will write up another comment about them.....
You’re right. It’s the Hawks. It’s a good thing I got out of that elevator in a hurry. Those gals would have been more of a problem than the guys!
Didn't he leave her in the first year of their marriage? Bet Mama made him an offer he couldn't refuse to go back home.
Chelsea Clinton’s Hubby Ditches His Wife & Job To Ski In Wyoming ...

Hollywood Life
Jan 31, 2011 - Chelseas husband Marc Mezvinsky is chasing the powder in Jackson Hole, Wyoming and leaving his wife and job back in NYC! It looks like newlywed bliss for Chelsea Clintons hubby Marc Mezvinsky may be fading he has left his job at a NYC- based hedge fund, G3 Capital .
Sounds like they didn't want you infringing on their territory =)
My employer, the owner of the company I work for.
My dad used to play hand ball with Neil Armstrong at the Lebanon OH YMCA. He was just there like my dad looking for someone to play against on a weekday morning.
“And in a dream, Bill and Hillary. They came to my house to film a commercial and I threw their asses out.”
That’s funny! I used to periodically see some of the F-16’s flying security and saw Marine 1 a few times when Bush 43 was commuting to and from Crawford TX.
So I have a dream periodically where Obama lands in the field in front of the house and begins walking toward my shop. I run out towards him, covered in dirt and grease, screaming words that I am too Christian to say to anyone!
