They are turning donations away. Flood victims are being refused folks wishing to cook fresh meals for them by The Red Cross.

The only groups I hate more than the red cross are United Way and the Salvation Army. Our corporate does yearly United Way Drives, and I unapologetically refuse to participate
We had a hurricane go through Pensacola about 11 years ago and we had a more water donated than they could give away. There were distribution centers set up in several places with pallets of bottled water.
I helped with a collection point after one hurricane and some local dollar store donated expired makeup and aftershave. It was a chance for them to get rid of stuff they were going to throw away and write it off their taxes.
At some point the RC had to stop using trucks to ship water and use them for blankets, clothes, diapers, and food.

If you have never dealt with the Red Cross as a G.I., a flood victim, a fire victim, a Katrina survivor, or other natural disaster survivor, then you are seeing things from outside the fence, and hearing what you wish.
I am a Katrina survivor. I have been a fire victim, Cape Cod National Forest, 1960’s. I had to get home from Thailand, 1972. So, i know whereof i speak.

Don’t forget they are part of the Combined Federal Campaign contributions, too.
Give as directly as possible. Find a local church that is collecting donations. Remember that churches with disaster relief trailers were there with the Cajun Navy before the Red Cross and the government even knew it was raining.
So did my husband. He was the only hold out in the United Way drive. His boss donated in his name so the department would have 100% participation.
I have my own horror story of dealing with the Sa!action Army and to this day would never putty one penny in their buckets.
Most Vets, myself included, rate the Red Cross somewhere below whale $#!t...and that’s at the bottom of the ocean.
Don’t forget what the RC did with the donations it got for 9/11.....Of the $564 million it received, only $154 million was distributed....the rest was absorbed by the RC to be used as it saw fit.

I’ve never cared for the way the Red Cross begs for blood donations, and then sells the blood.
My wife was the Assistant to the Director of Disaster Services in Tampa Bay for years and we both have volunteered since then. Around here they mostly do a great job, maybe because they have a very good stream of dedicated volunteers, especially from the military community, MacDill Air Base being in Tampa.
Anytime we are threatened with a flood or hurricane, they mobilize quickly and in force. But they are not built to accept food and such. Instead they have agreements in place with food suppliers, department stores and motels/hotels.
If you could go on a “fire call” or “flood response” with the Red Cross around here, you would see how well the system works. It’s designed to get the help the people need in the shortest time frame.
I’m sure many Red Cross areas around the country aren’t run as well, but Tampa Bay Red Cross is good at what they do.

It was one of the Al Sharpton, bring yo thousands moments.
The Red Cross showed up, and handed out water and other things.
There was no natural disaster, no earthquake, fire or flood.
After seeing the expose on them, I'm sorry I ever did. Really? Six figure income for the CEO? Low-level returns to the Vets? Maybe that's why I no longer see their constant commercials of late with Trace Adkins. Poor dupe, he meant well and is a true patriot.

As a first hand Katrina survivor, at the very Baton Rouge ‘shelter’ next to the Mississippi River that they are using now, I can tell you, they had their heads in their alimentary canal!
We had a big wildfire near and around my community.
After the RC had been on scene for 24 hours, we asked them to leave.
They were untrained to be of any help on scene and incompetent at the higher levels of command.

Donated blood to the RC for the first time in the early 60’s. Found out I was O-, universal donor. The RC sold my info and soon I was getting letters from parents whose kids needed my blood. Can you imagine the anguish a 17 year old can suffer having to turn down such pleas? It didn’t take long for me to just dump letters without opening them.
The American Red Cross is a congressionally chartered organization. So, has big DC connections. A couple articles.

I donated to WWP for several years before looking them up
on Charity Navigator after hearing about the six figure CEO.
I now donate to Homes for our Troops.
They get a very high rating from CN.
